Overrated: 2K5 and Madden '05

NFL 2K5 still has a ton of followers. For those that love that game and proclaim it every day to be the pinnacle of football gaming I'm happy for you. But you might not want to read any further.

2K5 is one of the most over-rated games I have ever seen. I don't even have to compare it to Madden to say this. After truly loving NFL 2K4, 2K5 took many steps backwards. It has bad DB AI, bad stamina, horrible momentum animations, they wrecked the screen passes and counter plays and the franchise AI got even worse. The biggest sin was the QB AI. They made the QBs in NCAA '08 look good. Way too many interceptions. I really wonder if all those that fell in love with 2K5 had actually played 2K4. It had issues but so many things were better in that game.

Flying Finn created a roster editor to help correct some of the flaws in 2K5. But the sheer slider tweaks and roster tweaks never saved this game for me. I went out and bought Madden '05 and was happy for a little while. Then the sheer boredom of playing defense and terrible presentation killed that game for me. Both 2K5 and Madden 05 were subpar.

The good news was that it pushed me into trying NCAA Football. Being a Canadian, this game wasn't allowed to be sold in Canada until NCAA '07. I ordered NCAA '06 online just to take a chance on something different. I LOVED IT! The gameplay and dynasty mode were addicting. My love for college football and the NCAA game series grew rapidly. I no longer play any professional football games like Madden or All Port Football 2K8 and I don't care.
