Uncharted Fun All Over Again
Posted on December 27, 2008 at 10:32 AM.
As the calendar flipped to 2008, my interest in sports gaming had bottomed out. Baseball was over and the next generation football games weren’t quite cutting it. For the first time in a long time, I turned to some non-sports games to keep my interest. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was a demo I tried and loved so I decided to give it a shot and bought it. It was one of the best games I have ever played. The story, characters, music and gameplay were top notch. I can only recommend this game to anyone with a PS3.

Uncharted has been described as one part Gears of War, one part Tomb Raider, one part Indiana Jones, etc. All of it may be true for this third person shooter/adventure game. One of the criticisms was that the game was too short as people were saying they could beat it in 8 hours. My first time through took me around 17 hours on normal difficulty! I guess you could say I sucked but I’m glad it didn’t last too short. (For those with more experience, maybe you should start on hard difficulty). There is a lot of shooting as well as some puzzle and platforming. You can’t simply run into the open blazing your guns and expect to succeed. Taking cover and conserving ammo are crucial. Hand-to-hand combat is in the game but a very small part. I did snap one guy’s neck once so that was cool but rare. While the shooting can get slightly repetitive they do break it up with some different areas where you are on a ski-doo, puzzle solving and platforming. Plus, the sheer variety of guns as you go through the game is great. I loved the Wes 44 handgun and the shotgun.

It was with some regret when I traded it in as the new sports games were coming out in the spring of 2008. But as my brother recently bought a PS3, he asked for Uncharted as a Christmas gift. I decided to pop it into my system to make sure the disc wasn’t scratched (I bought it used) and fell in love with the game all over again. Thank goodness I completed it again on Christmas Eve! Wouldn’t want Santa to be late! Took me 13 hours and I got 40 treasures. I was probably a little disappointed in both totals but I’m guessing I’ll play through this game again before Uncharted 2 comes out this fall. And I'll have fun all over again.

Yeah, Uncharted is an excellent game. I'll prolly get get Uncharted 2 when it comes out. Like you, I do enjoy everything about it. The story is submursive (sp?). See the thing for me is that while I wait for each following years EA NHL title, I do play other games as well. This year, I REALLY liked Dead Space. By far, prolly one of the scariest games I've ever played, and being a horror fan, this game made me jump more than any movie could. The gameplay is easy to learn, very straight forward with no BS that will get you stuck, and visually stunning. I recommend Dead Space for anyone who shares my love of horror and who just wants a great game in general.

Aslo, Tomb Raider: Underworld came out, and I had to get it being that I have every Tomb Raider game starting back from the PSOne. I am still working my way through it, but I have to say it is the best in the series so far.

I agree, Rudy, Uncharted is one of the best games I've ever played. Everything about it is top-notch, from the story line to the graphics to the voice acting. I'm probably going to give it one more play through on Crushing difficulty so I can hopefully nab a few more trophies.

Also, I just found out the other day the actor who plays Elena, Emily Rose, is HOT! Hadn't heard of her before.

Your absolutely right rudy, I too have recently started playing uncharted again after beating it some time ago and everything I remember about this game being great is still there on the second go round. This is really my favorite PS3 exclusive.

I'm not a fan of horror films. They freak me out too much so the Dead Space demo was just too creepy for me. The "I Am Legend" portion of Uncharted was cool but I'm glad it was only about 10% of the game. The one section in the dark was freaking me out. I wasn't looking forward to getting there again.

yeah that was the only part of the game i didn't enjoy...but like you said luckily enough it was only a small portion....let's up they stay away from that stuff in the second one.

Yeah, as soon as I got a look at the Uncharted 2 trailer, I pulled out Uncharted [couldn't bring myself to trade it in] and started on Hard Difficulty, which I had never run!

Now it's new all over again.....almost! Run a little each week....maybe stretch it out till "2" gets here, lol.

I loved this game also. The only part I didn't enjoy as much was the section with the zombies. I'm not a fan of games with too many weird creatures or monsters, lol.
