When will this happen?
Posted on June 27, 2011 at 12:30 PM.
With stats being a big part in sports, and everyone is looking towards "sim" style with oour sports videogames. When will we see the refs get their just due? I mean really, I know every game is suppose to be called the same way but 9/10 games aren't called the same...whether its umpires with different strike zones, a NBA REF calling a tight game or an NFL REF TEAM calling more pass interference then another.... with this added into our sports video gaming it can open up a whole "NEW" dimension to add the blown call/questionable call... Imagine an UMPIRE calls strike 3 a ball giving the batter an extra life in the AB then later crushes the game winning HR or the NFL REF throws a questionable flag for pass interference or NO call when their was clearly a flag that should of been thrown... or a questionable foul is called on your star player that causes him to sit for extended minutes. WHEN WILL THIS OR WILL THIS EVER HAPPEN?

I agree. I always wondered why they don't include multiple ref'ing styles and when are they going to add secondary announcers in sports games for less important games throughout a season (example: when your team plays a creampuff). How cool would it be to have 3 or 4 different play-by-play teams to add to the variety? I think maybe now the only thing that lacks in many sports games (including the real good ones) is still variety.

If the additional commentary team would be a DLC... I would buy that, even if its just a different voice without with same lines just to make it look new/ sound new.... Now I know NCAA Football try's show the difference in a game on ESPN and non televised games (with no commentary) but I think they could do more by adding another 1 or 2 teams in the both... it would make the game seem more fresh

"Imagine an UMPIRE calls strike 3 a ball giving the batter an extra life in the AB then later crushes the game winning HR"

Actually, MLB The Show has this, along with different umpires (w/ fictional names) and personalities/tendencies... the announcers will also sometimes make mention of it, if a situation like this happens.

thats awesome...... every sports "SIM" should follow suit... NBA, NHL and MADDEN/NCAA

The Show does an awesome job with this. I dont think it needs to be in all games. There are many other items I would rather see included / fixed before this is attempted.

It fits well in baseball because the umpires judgment is a bigger part of the game than in other sports except maybe basketball.

Does FIFA have this already? I know at the start of every match they talk about the officiating crews and if they call a tight match or allow more stuff to go on, I've noticed that sometimes I get carded for every tackle while other games never get a card.

we are on our way to seeing this I think MLB 2k11 does this as well to an extent. If they offered commentary teams as DLC I would pay for it as well

Yeah Fifa 11 does have this. Lenient refs tight refs and in the middle.

Id only want this if the refs reputation was known prior to each game so we would know the limits

that a good idea too.. like the announcer would say "Peter Hernandez(not real) is known as a pitchers umpire with a big strike zone" or something like that.... or if it was a Madden they would say something like " this crew had a bad week last week and I think they will be looking to redeem themselves with a more tightly called game"... NBA is a little different where I think calls can change depending on the games situation or the player.... or the announcer can say "the last time these to teams played it was really physical so look for the refs to call it tight in the beginning" but as always all these should be announcer opinions and can be played differently depending on game situations and the ref/umps. "stats".
