2k is stagnant.
Has been stagnant for years now.
Its the same old crap, that we buy year after year. Animations that don't make sense..Online exploits...Game freezes...And canned sequences that literally slide players out of the way in order to happen. 2k seems to never fix these issues, they just hide them behind new features that become extremely stale, like the shoe creator and Social Media. We mistake NBA 2k being a great basketball video game, with being the only basketball video game.
I honestly believe that the resurgence of NBA Live is gonna single handedly breathe life back into basketball video games. NOT SAYING LIVE WILL BE BETTER THAN 2K RIGHT AWAY, but in a few years, with the features that EA are bringing, its definitely possible that NBA Live will compete/surpass 2k next-gen.
With EA bringing the Ignite Engine, we are finally gonna have a basketball game with real time physics, rather than an animation-based hunk of frustration that we call 2k. Im tired of having a wide open lane to the hoop, but 2k pulls me back with some weird animation that make absolutely no sense to the momentum I was carrying to the basket, making me blow the layup. With physics like FIFA, Im hoping that Live will be the beautifully organic game I'm imagining it to be.
The new bouceTek looks absolutely amazing to me, but people are trying to crucify it, saying that 2k already has it. BounceTek is separating the ball from the player, giving the ball its own physics, which sounds like the Basketball Video Game Gods have answered my prayers. In 2k, the ball is literally part of the player. There have been situations where the defender literally hands me the ball via a canned animation, I time my reach perfectly, knock the ball loose, but still get called for the foul. I feel like bounceTek is gonna really open up some opportunities on the defensive end, allowing us to time the ball handler and capitalize on their mistakes for some gorgeous steals. Plus, with signature dribbles, star ballhandlers will handle the ball like themselves, allowing for some dynamic gameplay.
Synergy sounded great also, but what really caught my ear was the changing accessories game to game. If EA can make this happen, could hairstyles be possible too? Just brainstorming the possiblities.
Everyone is ready to say that Live is gonna bust again this year, but I really feel like EA might eventually retake the basketball throne next gen. Call me crazy, but 2k better really bring it.
