You excited about NBA Live 13?
Posted on March 2, 2012 at 09:57 AM.
I remember when I used to be a NBA Live fan, back in the PS/PS2 days. NBA Live was THE NBA franchise to have on your console. They made a great game back then, and kept they're customers coming back every year.

My favorite and most memorable NBA Live of all time has to be 2005. That game was the epitome of what basketball games should have been on the last-gen systems. I had never experienced anything like the all-star weekend mode. I spent countless hours of my time on the Dunk Contest and 3-pt shooting contest. EA did a really good job with this, as it added a party-type element to the game. Me and my friends would have sleepovers compete in all-star weekend literally all-night.

But then next-gen happened...

...And 2k took over. On PS3, I bought both NBA Live and NBA2k until 2010. Then I couldn't take anymore of the NBA Live crap. 09 was the WORST of the worst. Everytime you would shoot the ball, you knew whether it was going in or not based on whether the ball had a high arc or not. It took away the surprise factor. And on top of that, the player models were very robotic. It just didnt feel fluid. Live 10 was a step in the right direction. I kind of wish they would have just built on 10 instead of scrapping it all and failing with Elite.

Now we hear about EA resurrecting the series, and I'll be the first to admit that I'm excited. They've had 2 years to work on this game, and Im ready to see what they have been up to all this time. I really hope they would go back to what was successful, by bringing back the party-element they had in all-star weekend. Will it be enough to compete with 2k? I dont know. Part of me says it will sell well, outta of pure curiosity of the gamers. People wanna try something new, so i see alot of people buying both games. I will be. But the other part of me says no, simply because NBA2k is NBA2k. They have pretty much already perfected what a sports game is supposed to be. EA could be jumping in an lake too deep for them.

So with all that said...are you guys excited about NBA Live 13?

To be honest after Live 10 I vowed to never again buy a Live Basketball game, but if they have some sort of College Hoops integrated in it I would give them another chance, and only because I'm dying for a new College Hoops game.

I think a lot of people are intrigued only if due to NBA 2k fatigue. I have both NBA 2k11 and 12 and still play both (2k 11 for the Jordan stuff and 2k 12 for current teams and classic teams). I think both are great games but I'm not sure what 2k could do with NBA 2k13 to get me really excited. Add Charles Barkley? Iverson? Reggie Miller? If there's nothing really new, I'm open to seeing what EA can do with NBA Live. NBA 2k 12 was a release-day purchase for me because of the classic teams but I may not buy a new hoops game until Black Friday when I can get it for about $30.

last live I purchased was i believe live04. Ive been a 2k guy ever since and I dont expect that will change, unless 2k really delivers a sub par game.
I do not like EA's gameplay mechanics, AI. they would have to do something truely groundbreaking in order for me to even consider purchasing it.

I'm not excited at all. Live was a subpar franchise in its latter years and I sincerely doubt that its reincarnation will come anywhere near NBA2K's brilliance.

I'd haft to believe that since it would be nearly impossible for EA to compete with let alone surpass 2K's sim aspects, they will fall back upon the more fluid arcade style elements that embodied the Live series, which its ardent fans appreciated

What I do look forward to in regard to EA bringing back NBA Live is the element of competition it brings back in the the NBA video gaming arena.

Everybody is familiar with 2K's server issues, and Visual Concepts inability/refusal to improve them to an adequate state.

Whether they know or not, a lot of consumers who purchase NBA2K every year are planning/going to make the jump to the new live solely based upon the egregious state of online play in NBA2K.

I'm not purchasing Live along side of 2K, I'm speaking of buying Live only.

Hopefully Take Two getting hit where it matters most will spur them on to make the much needed sever upgrades the fans of its great series deserve.

I'm happy but not excited...Yet. I need more details on the direction of the game and mode depth. EA is known to disappoint in these areas.

I'm somewhat excited to see what EA brings to the table. I'm more excited to see how 2K performs with competition this year.
