My Call for Less Generic Video Games Titles
Posted on March 6, 2019 at 08:05 PM.
In 2096, I would be dead. You too and the rest of humanity with. In the event that Man has not removed himself from the surface of the globe, I want this post to be read by future generations so that the existential question that has been bothering me for some time now finds an answer:

Video games Sports are the perfect pastime to just chill and hand out with your friends. I'm 34 now and I not only love sports but I also love putting a little something into real-life sports to make them interesting. That's why I'm very excited to see how the landscape looks like in a couple of years. As some of you know (or may not), at this time, over half a dozen States in America are working towards regulating sports betting in general. There are even some sportsbook that are offering e-sports already.

All these makes me even more optimistic for the future of sports in video games. Electronic Arts is well know for their not-so-friendly business practices and lack of thoughts towards their customer base. Which brings me to the following point: How on earth are Electronic Arts going to name their range of sports games at the end of the century?

Whereas FIFA '96 , NBA Live '96 , NHL '96 and consors are already taken and that the competition has starting using the same naming convention.

You've noticed that it's been a long time since publishers are taking too much risk in the outings and instead they recycle more or less juicy licenses. So In the past we have had the likes of flowers 3 and 4 at the end of our favorite titles, even III and IV when there is a concern for historical authenticity. Some are trying to give a semblance of novelty out of the titles but the technique Metal Gear: Sons Of Liberty no longer works. Remember Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow? someone should rather rename it and call it Splinter Cell 1.2 .

In today's age is all the most important to keep a game titles sharp and original. E-sports have taken video games into the mainstream media, and odds and lines will start be seen more often. Fifa 2042 it's just not gonna cut it. As I write this post offshore sportsbook are working towards moving in and setting their shops. We are all starting to see betting odds on mainstream news outlet such as NBC and CBS. And video games and e-sports in general will be part of it. Local agents are also getting all the resources on how to become a sports bookie and start their local operation. Give it a couple of years and you will also see "Team OpTic -115" on your evening news outlet LOL.

But in all seriousness, these titles need to improve. Why hide the truth? Why make pompous titles while the content uses the same routines, the same engines as well graphic as physical, the same bank of sounds or the same effects of light that make say "wow" that the episode out less than a year (!!) before? Some like Capcom have understood and go out directly a Devil May Cry 5 . Paf. There, it's clear, no frills, it has been trimmed on the brainstorm budget but it does not matter. In fact, for Devil May Cry, the title question does not even arise. The problem is especially to ask if this frankness deserves its 5 episodes and if it would not be wiser to let our Dante rest once and for all in peace.

Obviously, some licenses are renewed keeping the recipe but not hesitating to evolve, grow old (die?) Their hero (to the chagrin of fans elsewhere) but we must still admit that in most cases, we are entitled to typical games Tintin / Asterix with an immortal hero who goes through the ages. And no, I'm not talking about Prince Of Persia: Sands of Time (aka PoP 4 or 5)

In fact, I got there because preparing the arrival of the Xbox One in my living room (well yes, I'm offered, I will not refuse! *) I came across the line-up available to the exit "planned" (ahem!). Well there is almost no original license. On the other hand we find the EA Sports fall-winter range. Faithful to the appointment. And just to see what they are going to lay in 90 years, I'd like to hold on, you know?
