20/21 Season Game 57 Colorado Avalanche @ Winnipeg Jets
Colorado headed up to Winnipeg for a Valentine's Day showdown against the Central division rival Jets. Colorado didn't have a first period like the other night against Toronto, but it was still well played. They controlled the puck virtually the entire 20 minutes, outshooting the Jets 13-4 in the frame. Just under 6 minutes in Colorado took the lead on Martin Kaut's 9th of the season. The Czech rookie has really paid off Colorado's faith in him this season. The Jets started to get more shots on net in the second, but it was the Avs getting on the board a second time on a fantastic tip out of mid air by Nazem Kadri. Hellebuyck played a great game for the Jets, but the team in front of him couldn't muster much offense. The Jets really cranked up the pressure in the third period, causing Colorado to take two penalties. The Avs were able to kill off the first Jet's powerplay, but Mathieu Perreault scored on the second one to make for a nervy last few minutes for the Avs. The Jets pulled Hellebuyck late but couldn't find a way to beat Grubauer, who has really rebounded from his poor stretch of play in January. The Avs skated away with a 2-1 win, and head back to Denver for a three game home stand.
