20/21 Season Game 56 Toronto Maple Leafs @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs returned to home ice looking to get revenge against a Toronto team that beat them 5-4 earlier this season. It was a great start for Colorado, Nathan MacKinnon scoring just 32 seconds into the game. Just over midway through the period, the Avs doubled their lead on a Cale Makar goal that beat Andersen off the post and in. With just over a minute to play in the opening frame, MacKinnon scored his second of the night to finish off one of the best starts Colorado has had all season. Trailing by three to start the second, Toronto threw everything they had at Colorado, earning the majority of the shot attempts. Grubauer held his ground though, and the Avs kept the 3-0 lead intact into the second intermission. Toronto continued to pressure in the third, and it paid off when Marner finally beat Grubauer for his 15th of the season. Aggressively chasing the game, Toronto took a late penalty and had to pull their netminder for a 5th skater, and Landeskog took advantage of the empty net on the powerplay to seal the 4-1 win for Colorado, their 40th of the season. The Avs will make a quick trip to Winnipeg on Sunday before the next home stand.
