20/21 Season Game 54 Colorado Avalanche @ New York Islanders
Colorado headed to Long Island after a flying start to their three game road trip. Colorado has struggled against the Islanders physical style the past few seasons and tonight was no different. The Avs had the majority share of shots on net, but former netminder Semyon Varlamov was tought to beat. The first period was low event, neither team was able to find the back of the net. Colorado continued their shooting pressure into the second, and finally got a breakthrough late in the period with a Nazem Kadri powerplay goal after a nice poke check by Galchenyuk. The lead didn't last long, as New York hemmed the Avs in their zone on the next shift, and Eberle tied the game as the Avs were unable to get the puck out of their zone. The Islanders put on more pressure in the third, and Casey Cizikas scored the game winner with less than five minutes to play. New York added a late empty netter to cap off a 3-1 win for the Islanders. The Avs conclude their road trip tomorrow night in Boston.
