20/21 Season Game 52 Columbus Blue Jackets @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs took on Columbus in Denver for the final game of the long home stand. After a slow start against Vancouver the Avs looked to start out on the front foot this time. They were the better team early but couldn't get anything past Korpisalo. Late in the period Colorado continued their recent trend of undisciplined play and found themselves in the box. The penalty kill couldn't get it done and Alexandre Texier made them pay, giving the BLue Jackets a one goal leading heading into intermission. The second period began with a scoring frenzy, Mikko Rantanen tied the game less than a minute in, backhanding a rebound past Korpisalo. Columbus regained their lead 19 seconds later courtesy of Cam Atkinson's 13th of the season. Just over two minutes later Colorado tied it up again on Brandon Saad's second powerplay goal in as many games, a greasy goal similar to Rantanen's. The scoring blitz continued just over midway through the 2nd, Gustav Nyquist sniping Grubauer glove side to give Columbus the lead again. Late in the period Kadri tied it up for Colorado by driving the net after nice forechecking by the Avs. With the score tied at three apiece in the third, both teams looked to try and find the winner but both goalies shut the door. Colorado begain overtime controlling most of the possession but couldn't get a goal to cap it off. Cale Makar was called for tripping and the Avs had to play the remaining OT period a man down. The PK unit stood strong and the game headed to a shootout. Mikko Rantanen scored the only goal of the shootout to help the Avs snap their two game losing streak before heading out on the road.
