20/21 Season Game 51 Vancouver Canucks @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs took on Vancouver in Denver in a matchup between former Northwest Division rivals. Vancouver has proved a tough matchup for Colorado this season, and tonight was no different. The Avs haven't done well after extended layoffs, and coming back from the All Star break was no different. They took two early penalties and were able to kill them off, but the sustained pressure by the Canucks would pay off when both teams were back to even strength. The Canucks scored twice in the span of a minute to jump out to an early lead, Horvat and Pettersson doing the damage. The Avs would cut the defecit to 1 midway through the first on a powerplay goal by Brandon Saad. The Avs got their legs going in the second, but were unable to solve Holtby and entered the third still needing a goal to get the score tied. They created some good chances but were still unable to get one past the former Capitals goalie. With just over 6 minutes remaining Jay Beagle potted his 5th goal of the season for the insurance goal that Vancouver needed. Beagle would add an empty netter to seal a 4-1 win for the Canucks and send the Avs to their second straight loss. Colorado will take on Columbus Friday night before heading out East on a three game road trip.
