20/21 Season Game 48 Los Angeles Kings @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs returned home to face the Kings for the third time this season. The Kings struggled to contain the Avs speed and skill all night. The Avs owned the puck in the first period, outshooting LA 10-2 in the frame and taking the lead on a powerplay goal from Nazem Kadri. The second period was more of the same early on, the Kings found themselves in the box again and the Avs capitalized on the man advantage for the second time thanks to Nathan MacKinnon. LA would fight back and take advantage of what has been poor goaltending for the Avs lately, no matter who is in net. Carl Grundstrom got a goal back for LA midway through the second, and then the Kings would tie it up with 4 seconds left in the second. Grubauer only faced 9 shots all night, and he only saved 6 of them. There is still a bit more to play in the regular season, but the Avs could see their lead in the standings evaporate and face an early playoff exit if the goaltending doesn't improve. Just over midway through the third, the Avs would take the lead once again on a goal from Galchenyuk, his third in the last two games. Five minutes later, LA would tie the game again on Martin Frk's second goal of the night. It looked like the game was destined for OT but some good puck movement after a faceoff win allowed J.T. Compher some space in the zone to find Nichushkin for a back door tap in. The Avs would add a late empty netter to seal the win against an average Kings team, despite Grubauer's poor play in net.
