20/21 Season Game 45 Colorado Avalanche @ Montreal Canadiens
The Avs played Montreal in their third game of a five game road trip across Canada. Montreal was looking to avenge the 7-4 loss at the hands of Colorado last month. Montreal was the better team in the first period, preventing the Avs from generating anything offensively and capping off the period with a powerplay goal by former Avalanche 1st rounder Tyson Jost in the last minute to take a one goal lead into intermission. The Avs got their legs going in the second and tied it up when Saad found Ryan Graves with a drop pass and the defenseman blasted a slapshot through traffic and into the net. Just under 10 minutes later, Makar found a streaking Saad with a stretch pass and the winger beat Price with a quick snapshot to put the Avs ahead 2-1. Montreal didn't take long to tie the game back up, Tomas Tatar finding the net less than a minute later. With a tied game heading into the third, both teams were looking for a valuable mid season win. Discipline would cost the Avs tonight though, Tomas Tatar scored his second goal of the night on Montreal's second powerplay situation of the game. The score would finish 3-2 Montreal, their special teams making the difference.
