20/21 Season Game 43 Colorado Avalanche @ Winnipeg Jets
The Avs started a five game all Canadian road trip in Winnipeg. After three nights off the Avs came out of the gate slow and Winnipeg blitzed them. Midway through the 1st Landeskog took a hooking penalty and Winnipeg capitalized on the powerplay via Mathieu Perreault for a 1-0 lead. Winnipeg continued to smother the Avs and doubled their lead late in the period on a nice Ehlers shot off a feed from former Av Paul Stastny. The Avs turned it around to start the second period and started to get a better grip on the game. The breakthrough finally came when MacKinnon hit Rantanen with a long stretch pass and the Finnish winger beat Hellebuyck short side on a mini breakaway. The Avs continued to control possession into the third, working hard to find an equalizer. It finally came with under 5 minutes to play when Bellemare and Toews won a puck battle along the boards, the defenseman finding Nichushkin in the low slot to tie the game on a shot that deflected off a skate. Just as the game look destined for overtime, Sam Girard found space in the high slot with 13 seconds left in regulation and fired a wrister that Hellebuyck got a piece of but couldn't keep out of the net. It was a great comeback win for the Avs, who return to the ice tomorrow night in Calgary.
