20/21 Season Game 40 Los Angeles Kings @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs rounded out 2020 by welcoming the Los Angeles Kings to Denver on New Year's Eve. After a couple of slow starts coming off the Christmas break, the Avs finally came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. Just over a minute into the game, Landeskog found Rantanen in front to put the Avs ahead early. The Kings wasted no time answering back, former Avalanche Carl Soderberg doing damage against his old team. The remainder of the 1st was back and forth and the game was tied at 1 going into the first intermission. The Avs started to dominate puck possession and took the lead again just under 5 minutes into the middle frame. Bellemare corralled a rebound in front and slid the puck past Quick for his 8th tally of the season. Once again the Kings would answer right back, veteran Jeff Carter finishing off a nice passing sequence by LA. Less than a minute later the Avs found themselves on the only powerplay of the game, and MacKinnon was able to take advantage and put the Avs back in the lead. Leading to start the 3rd period, the Avalanche were determined to see out another win, and dominated the Kings for the final 20 minutes. Midway through Landeskog capped off a dominant night for the Avs top line, burying his 20th goal of the season, the 500th point of his career. The Avs added a late empty netter to send the fans home happy and looking forward to 2021.
