20/21 Season Game 39 Chicago Blackhawks @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs returned to the Ball Arena ice against the Blackhawks looking to bounce back from two consecutive losses. Colorado started slow again like they did against Vegas. Chicago dominated the first period, heavily outshooting Colorado and taking a 1-0 lead thanks to Mattias Janmark's 10th of the season. Colorado started the second shorthanded, and Chicago took advantage on the powerplay to extend their lead to 2-0 on a Dominik Kubalik shot from the low slot. Beind down by two sparked a little life into the Avs, and they got a goal back on when MacKinnon deflected a Graves wrister from the point past Subban. With less than 5 minutes to play in the middle frame the Avs tied the game when Landeskog controlled the puck in a netfront scrum and fired home his 19th goal of the season. Chicago broke the 2-2 tie early into the 3rd period on a Jonathan Toews goal after Zack Smith won a puck battle in the corner. The Avs would fight back once again, this time Galchenyuk scoring on the rush. The Avs would take their first lead of the game 3 minutes later on a Joonas Donskoi goal. They protected the lead the rest of the way to snap the losing streak and hand Grubauer his 100th career win in net. The Avs take the ice again in two nights time to play the Kings to round out 2020.
