20/21 Season Game 35 Montreal Canadiens @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs welcomed Montreal to town for a Quebec Nordiques throwback night. Hockey coaches couldn't dream up a game they hate more than this one. A lot of penalties and a lot of goals. The first period was back and forth as both teams traded goals. The Avs struck first when Burakovsky beat Price from close range. The Canadiens would answer right back with a Kotkanieme goal off the rebound. With the score tied heading the second period, the Avalanche blitzed the Canadiens in the opening minutes of the frame with 3 unanswered goals. The first came on a Burakovsky blast from the high slot with the man advantage. Just a minute later, Erik Johnson doubled the lead with his 1st of the season on a flukey play. With the Canadiens getting aggressive to get back in the game, the Avs took advantage and scored another goal, this time Donskoi on an odd man rush. Montreal would answer with 1:30 left in the second, a nice Drouin snipe from the right circle. The third period continued on in the same vein, and the Avs added two more powerplay goals from Galchenyuk and MacKinnon. This was the first game all season that Colorado finished perfect on the powerplay. Montreal would fight back late with a powerplay goal from Gallagher and Jost with the extra skater out. It's safe to say both goalies would rather forget this one. The Avs finish their homestand Monday night when the Blackhawks come to town for the first time this season.
