20/21 Season Game 32 Colorado Avalanche @ St. Louis Blues
Colorado headed East to take on division rival St. Louis at the Enterprise Center. It was the second matchup between the teams this season. St. Louis had a good start, slowing down the pace and clogging the neutral zone to try and slow the game down to fit their style. Colorado started to impose themselves as the period wore on, and with just under 5 minutes to play in the opening stanza Burakovsky found Galchenyuk in front to open the scoring. Colorado kept up the pressure and just over 2 minutes later they doubled their lead on Martin Kaut's 4th of the season. The rookie has put in some solid performances since being slotted in the fourth line. Colorado continued to control the game into the second period, and grabbed a 3rd goal with Mikko Rantanen finishing off a slick passing play by the top line. Several minutes later the top line struck again, this time captain Gabe Landeskog beating Binnington at the near post after some powerful skating down the right hand side and into the slot. St. Louis frustration started to boil and they took a slashing penalty to end the middle frame. The night would get worse for the Blues as Colorado would extend the lead to five with MacKinnon cashing in on the powerplay. The Blues would finally yank Binnington after he gave up a 6th goal, Galchenyuk's second of the game on a 2 on 1 rush. The Blues would get a late consolation through Tyler Bozak. The Avs get right back to work tomorrow night, returning home to face NHL leading goal scorer Tyler Seguin and the Dallas Stars.
