20/21 Season Game 30 Colorado Avalanche @ Tampa Bay Lightning
Colorado traveled to Tampa Bay for the final game of their four game road trip. The Avs stayed with Francouz in net, trying to ride the hot hand as he shutout the Panthers in the previous game. The early going was all Tampa Bay, they generated most of the early shots and suffocated any offensive attempts by Colorado. The early pressure payed off and Tampa took the lead midway through the first on captain Steven Stamkos 7th goal of the campaign. The Avs grew into the game in the middle period and started to get more shots, but the Lightning doubled their advantage after Cal Foote, son of former Avalanche stalwart Adam Foote, would take advantage of a neutral zone turnover and score his first NHL goal. Colorado would keep fighting, and were able to get a goal back when Burakovsky retrieved a dump in and found Galchenyuk on the back door with just over 30 seconds remaining in the second. Colorado would continue their positive play when the puck dropped to start the third. Just under two minutes in, Landeskog skated the puck in down the right side and beat Vasilevskiy with a quick wrister to tie it up at two apiece. The play continued with both squads fighting hard to find the potential game winner, and it was Nazem Kadri who came up with the goods on an opportunistic shot after a faceoff scrum to beat the all star Russian netminder and give the Avs the lead. Colorado soaked up the additional pressure put on by the Lightning and killed a late penalty to escape with a 3-2 victory and a 3-1-0 record on the road trip.
