20/21 Season Game 28 Colorado Avalanche @ Pittsburgh Penguins
The Avs continued their road trip in Pittsburgh, their second time seeing the Penguins in the span of a week. The first period started slow for the first few minutes, but quickly turned into a scoring frenzy. Rookie Martin Kaut opened the scoring with his 3rd goal of the season coming off the rush. The Penguins would answer back just a minute later when Zucker capitalized off of a bad Avalanche turnover in the neutral zone. Pittsburgh took the lead several minutes later on Brandon Tanev's 2nd goal of the season, coming off of another turnover by Colorado. Both of Tanev's goals this season have come against the Avs. Colorado would tie it late in the 1st on Landeskog's team leading 16th goal. With the score tied to start the 2nd, both teams fought hard and had to kill several penalties to keep the score tied. Looking to avoid another 3rd period blowout, Pittsburgh thoroughly outplayed Colorado in the final frame. Midway through the period, Rodrigues would beat Grubauer high glove side on a breakaway thanks to another sloppy Colorado neutral zone turnover. Mike Matheson would give Pittsburgh an insurance goal with under 5 minutes to play, and Crosby iced the win with a late empty netter.
