20/21 Season Game 24 Colorado Avalanche @ Nashville Predators
Colorado rode a 7 game winning streak into the Music City for another Central Division showdown against the Predators. This one started off much like the last game these teams played against eachother with tight checking and limited scoring opportunities. Former Avalanche Matt Duchene opened the scoring just over 7 minutes in with a wrister from the high slot into the top shelf. Colorado fought back to tie it in on a goal from rookie Martin Kaut created by a nice passing play after intense forechecking pressure from the 4th line. Colorado grabbed the lead in the last few minutes of the opening frame, a Gabriel Landeskog backhand to notch his league leading 14th goal of the season. The second period opened up with Colorado generating more pressure and getting the majority of shots on net, but a bad turnover at the offensive blue line led to a Mark Borowiecki breakaway for the tying goal. Colorado regained the lead with just 12 seconds remaining in the middle period when Nathan MacKinnon buried the rebound from an Ian Cole slapshot. Down by a goal in the 3rd, Nashville cranked up the pressure and heavily outshot Colorado. For most of the period all the Avs could manage was dumping the puck in to get fresh legs on the ice. The pressure would pay off for Nashville as a Borowiecki shot from the top of the circle hit two bodies and found its way to the back of the net for the tying goal. Less than a minute later, a Colorado turnover in their own end allowed Calle Jarnkrok to score the game winner with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game.
