20/21 Season Game 23 Dallas Stars @ Colorado Avalanche
The Avs returned home for a division matchup against the Dallas Stars. Colorado started slow, coming off a win against Arizona the night before. Dallas took the lead just over 6 minutes in on a goal from L'Esperance. The game was evenly matched with a lot of firewagon hockey up and down the ice. With just over 30 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Landeskog tied the game for Colorado just as time expired on their first of two powerplays on the night. The Avs got their legs back to start the 2nd period and took the lead just over a minute in on another Landeskog goal. They continued to apply pressure and extended their lead a couple of minutes later when Rantanen rushed up the right side of the ice and beat Bishop high glove side. Dallas would not go away, cutting the defecit to one with a Denis Gurianov goal. Colorado would get their two goal lead back with just under 5 minutes to play in the middle period, this time Burakovsky with the honors. The 3rd period started with the frantic back and forth pace. Colorado added a powerplay goal by Nazem Kadri to extend their lead to 3, and looked to tighten things up to ensure the win. The Stars continued to fight back though, cutting the defecit on a Joe Pavelski goal. Undisciplined play would then cost the Avs their lead, as they took two quick penalties handing the Stars a 5 on 3 man advantage. Radulov struck twice in 20 seconds on the powerplay to tie the game. With the score tied at five apiece in a game coaches and goalies hate, Donskoi beat Bishop 5 hole after a faceoff win in the offensive zone and Colorado escaped with a narrow 6-5 victory to extend the winning streak to seven games.
