20/21 Season Game 20 Colorado Avalanche @ Anaheim Ducks
The Avs began a three game Pacific Division road trip in Orange County against a surprising Ducks team that led the NHL in points going into the game. It was a nightmare start for the usually excellent John Gibson. The Avs absolutely shelled him, scoring 4 goals in the opening 7 minutes of the game. Bellemare struck first, driving the net to finish a pass from Alex Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk, signed for bottom 6 depth in the offseason, has flourished since being put on the 2nd line with Kadri and Burakovsky. Rantanen doubled the lead just over a minute later with a nice move to beat Gibson stick side. MacKinnon added the third goal on a deflection of a Sam Girard wrist shot. It was announced after the game that Girard sustained a foot injury and will miss a few games. Compher rounded out the scoring by beating Gibson from close range for his first goal of the season. The Avs played it safe by dumping the puck in and forechecking for the rest of the game, but Anaheim got on the board in the 3rd period when Sam Steel took advantage of a bad Devon Toews turnover.
