NBA 2K MY LEAUGE/MY GM IDEAS MOVING FORWARD
Posted on January 28, 2017 at 09:09 PM.
I’m an avid offline MyLeague player on the NBA 2k series. So much so that I often go out of my way to make every nuance as real as possible to my taste. From the tendencies, to the accessories, to the stats, it all matters to me. I want to express that I feel that the team has done a great job with the offline MyLeague/ MyGM experience, but there are a few things I think they should take a look at adding. Below I will throw out a few ideas I think will add to the experience. Feel free to discuss, add to, or even criticize them lol.

1. General presentation – There is a LOT of information loaded in the game for MyLeague, but it seems as if so much is hidden from us, or hard to find at best. I think the general MyLeague screen should resemble a website, similar to maybe ESPN.

The main the page should have the sub categories up top, with your controller acting as a mouse pointer for info. The main page should highlight key aspects for your team and the league. Let’s use the Cavs for example. If Lebron is playing too many minutes and is accumulating wear and tear, have an “article” pop up on the main screen after that game saying something like “Cavs should look to rest Lebron”, or “Lebron complains of too many minutes” and when you click it you’re lead to a screen that you can address that concern.

Ignore it and his morale goes down and risk of injury goes up. There should be an option that if you don’t want to see certain info or storylines you can toggle them on and off, but having the most pertinent information right there on your “homepage” should make the experience more organic and organized.

2. Practice – this whole system needs to be overhauled and become more connected with the overall experience of “your” team. Freestyle practice should now become a real life shootaround. I’m still not sure how the whole mechanic should be set up, but you should either be able to use the whole team freely and gain “experience”, or pick a certain amount of players to focus on to gain “experience”.

If you do well with a player during shootaround percentage wise, or green release wise, you should get a bonus with that player when shooting during the next game or so. If you have a bad shootaround that should carry over too. This could be the first system set up to really show a slump and cause us to maybe make some lineup changes, or strategy changes until the player works his way out of it.

Right now only injuries can cause this and I think this is a good dynamic to add. The next thing I would like to introduce is coordinated practices and gameplans. If you get burned on defense one game, you can have your team focus on key defensive drills and elements for the next game your whole next practice, but that could be a cost to your shooting timing.

Want to practice some key offensive plays, the system would judge how successful you ran them and give you the appropriate bonus when you run them in the game. The thought process here is if you get a lot of “broken play”, then when you run it in game the practice bonus may be none. Of course you should still be able to bypass this option if you choose, but if you want more depth and connected experience, it should be there.

3. Pregame – I would love the option to shootaround with guys before tip off and have a mechanic similar to practice above before a game. If I’m on a long road trip and don’t have any scheduled practices, at least I can shootaround with Kyrie before the game to time his release. Now this should be timed, no more than 5 minutes, so the bonus you can get is limited. Let’s say Kyrie has a sore wrist, his shot timing should be off some so I want to see what it is before game action. If his release is hard to get down, my assistant coach may suggest to sit him that game and fully heal by the next game. If I choose to play him there’s further risk and a longer recovery time. Those kind of dynamics add a lot to the experience if they’re able to be implemented.

I just want to say I love MyLeauge and what 2k has done to expand franchise modes in sports video games. Going forward I would just like to see more immersion and real life elements added on to keep pushing the genre. I apologize for any typos or bad punctuation. I wrote this quickly and in the back of an Uber lol.

feature 2 and 3 that you mentioned are in CH2k8. it would be nice to see that make its way to NBA2k.

one thing I would like to see is an improvement on how injuries and healing are handled. they should have specific rehab for specific injuries instead of just having one option for all injuries.

they should also have DNP- coaches decisions, rest, injury rehab.

1 100% agree with you. I still play CH2k8 so that let's me know a lot of things are possible for sure. I often wonder why they don't revisit older games and what they did right, like The Crib with interactive games.

1) Don't let us know the exact rating of incoming prospects. Makes team building too easy. Depending on how good our scout is we can lower the range of possible ratings (i.e. this prospect will be rated between a 72-75). Also, each player should have a star/bust potential. Like if Anthony Bennett was in the draft class he might come in with a decent rating but his bust potential is 80% meaning he is likely to not improve much from his rookie year or even regress early.

2) Reduce number of player complaints. Your players complain way too frequently. There should be some logic behind it too. If you have a young player he shouldn't be complaining every week about playing behind an established starter/star.

3) Bring back the defining of roles for players. Make it so we can deem somebody the franchise player of the team, a star, a starter, 6th man, rotation player etc. If they agree with their role then cool. If they don't agree with their role then their morale takes a hit for as long as they are assigned to that role. However, they SHOULD NOT COMPLAIN about this role after it's set. As you can tell I'm tired of dealing with player complaints in MyGM lol.

I feel all 3 of your points bruh. All of them will add to more depth and less crazy stuff from happening. I'm a Cavs fan and it makes me mad when Shump complains about his role lol

Lol yea man Shump should never complain. I like your idea about practice too. I've been wanting practice to actually mean something so I think what you posted is a great idea.

I agree with your presentation idea. I just got off of Madden and the league news screen is a couple light years ahead of NBA2K. It definitely has a web-page, business-like look and appeal. Clear head and shoulder pictures of the players and pundits; no "clown" headshots like 2K has of someone's dog or some nonsense pose. I get a real sense that I'm looking at NFL.com. 2K is more like Twitter gossip; less offical; even worse there is consistently 3 people tweeting about one game, and the other two tweets might cover something else. I remember 2K6, and maybe 2K7, having a summary paragraph about the games played on the in-game "internet". I'd like seeing something more professional similar to Madden.
