First off let me say I love 2K14 next gen for what it is, not what many thought it should be. After getting a console at every launch since Sega Genesis, I’ve learned to manage my expectations when it comes to launch consoles and games, especially sports games. 2K14 is the premier launch title in my opinion because it’s the only one that released totally different products for current gen and next gen, both with significant things of merit. The fact that they didn’t just port over a proven winner and decided to rebuild with the best graphics ever in a sports game, refined game play and new/adapted modes is remarkable. But even with all of those things in the win column, we have to address the losses.
I read OS faithfully everyday during my down time at work and I’m fully aware of most of the issues that have plagued the user experience with 2K14 next gen. I consider myself fortunate that the only issues that I’ve experienced are random crashes to the dashboard, one stalled my GM experience and what would be considered a terrible batting average when it comes to connecting to games in The Park mode (2 out of 10 maybe). But the fact that others in our community can’t even access modes and the great customizers around here (Hokupguy, Sean Barkley, VTCRB, Ray Ray etc.) are being shut out from personalizing our experience, is a huge concern.
I’m aware that the big 3rd patch is supposed to fix things so we’ll wait and see with that, but going into 2K15 here are some things I think 2K should follow in order to appease the most vocal and passionate members of their fan base:
1.VC- There is no shortage of posts and debates that go on here that are about Virtual Currency and all of its ramifications. I won’t bring up all the points the most popular ones are normal items cost too much, the experience is quickly tainted by 99 overall guys right away and playing games simply doesn’t give you enough VC to do really anything shortly after release. I will admit that I buy VC at a pretty decent clip compared to others. I’m 32 and a married father of two toddlers. I simply don’t have the time to build a myTeam, play multiple season in a myGM and build a myCareer that puts me in the Hall Of Fame. I’m lucky if I can play 1 game a night lol. But I also see the need for more balance and maybe a rethinking on how VC is applied. Maybe filters should be in place so guys who are 65 overall and building their player through hard work, aren’t thrown into a Park filled with 99 overall slam dunking, three point shooting, diamond earring wearing basketball Gods. I am of the belief that this is the exact reason why Crew was removed. But it does leave a bad taste when it seems a beloved mode was removed because of hacked players, but now it’s ok to have the same kind of guys if you pay for them. Balance is still off. So for 2K15 I would like to see filters in place for the Park that puts similar player skill together.
2. Customization- I won’t say which 2K employees I’ve noticed on the roster threads, but let’s just say they’re fans of the good work that is done here at OS. If you haven’t been to the roster thread here and you play 2K, I can 100% say you haven’t been playing the game like it should be experienced. Every year the guys here extend the game all the way into the new release with rosters that add almost any historic team that had any success, international teams and even college squads. To be devil’s advocate I can imagine some hurdles 2K runs into when the game is “hacked” to create roster greatness, but at least have an open dialogue about it with the community. Heading into 2K15 I would like to see as many customization items (create a player, create a team, roster saves, expanded 2Kshare etc) added back into the game as possible, or at least some dialogue on what can be added back and what can’t with applicable reasons. As games are getting more technical and more advanced, so is the community. We don’t expect things to be perfect out of the box, so these options made us feel like we all were a part of creating the classic 2K titles of recent memory. But when you eliminate those options, then the pressure is even bigger on 2K to deliver on the nuances of every aspect of the NBA out of the box, from accessories, to jerseys, to playbooks and especially thorough and timely roster updates. I may get fried for saying this, but 2K needs to definitely “borrow” some things from NBA Live in this department (along with some presentation items).
3.Remix The Demo- Here we are in a new generation of consoles and everything should be about pushing the envelope. If 2K15 wants to capture the hearts of the sim gaming community and avoid the angry torch carrying mob, drop a demo 4-6 weeks before release. Not just any demo, but one that incorporates all modes and makes us become sort of testers for the new game. Maybe cap myCareer and myGM at 10-15 games and allow us a set number of games in every online mode (5-10) so feedback can make it into the retail version or at least the 1st patch. Personally I enjoyed when they released the draft combine prior to 2K10 and when they had the Legends Showcase in 2K12. I think those elements mixed with the commitment of working with the community to produce a better and more stable product will cement 2K’s legacy in this generation and close the door on competition. Even if you want to charge $10 for this demo and then sale the retail digital download for $10 cheaper for those who purchased the demo, that would be great. Gone are the days where you keep a game in secrecy, make it appear as a Ferrari and then when we push the button it has a 4 cylinder engine. In these times you must work with the community and definitely incorporate what they want as much as you can.
4. Bring back 30 team control
5. Improve CPU trade logic
6. Read my blog on Next Gen Dynasty/Association and add some of those to myGM
7. Keep Blacktop, but get rid of the Ballers and the Ringers lol. If players are selected from the same team, just call them the team name. Also let us customize options on the Blacktop (make it take it, games to 10, 12, 16 etc, switch hoops at half, etc.)
Just some ideas I put together in my spare time. Please drop a comment and add more. I hope my homie LD2K sees this and takes it back to Devs. Peace!!

Thanks fam!!
I would also like to add I hope 2K is working on online leagues as well. This definitely has to be addressed and should either be a 30 team myGM experience, or go back to the days of when they had the website with detailed stats and all that.
