Our non-conference schedule is one that I expect to go undefeated during, with the scheduling of two FCS teams. East Carolina and their Air Raid could be a challenge but I'm confident we'll be prepared for them by Week 2. Our conference schedule looks to be a true test, something this defense and I accept. The ACC is shaping up to be a quality conference, hopefully VT can remain the crown jewel. 2011 is upon us!

The defense I run is the 44 Ghost defense, designed in the 80s to help and stop the run. Over the years, with more and more teams switching to the spread and spread option, the defense has had to change and adapt. The 44 is now run out of a 42 front, with two special positions: the Rover and the Whip. In a traditional defense, they would be the outside linebackers, but in our defense their players similar to safeties. We allow them to roam the field; their the eyes of our defense and choose whether to cover or blitz based on their reads. Typically, you'll see our Rover in coverage and our Whip closer to the line of scrimmage.
This recruiting class heading into the season could shape up to be one of the best in VT history if everything goes right. Each player has the exact quality Coach Beamer and I look for in a player. I'll give more in-depth analysis on each recruit over the course of the season. Keep an eye on T Kyle Wilson. He's the recruit we want most.
