Player allegiances

Brett Favre is from Mississippi and so am I. So naturally Green Bay is my favorite team. When Favre unretired and was signed to the Jets Iand i rooted for them. Then he retired again and this time he signed with the Vikings. And I can't root for the Vikings cause of the rivalry. I can root for Brett but that would be rooting for the vikings cause his success is directly tied to the Vikes success. It's a dilemna I know. Any way are there any players or situations where you root for a hated team only because you have an allegiance to a certain player?
