This is the start of my first dynasty using Bowl Bound College Football 2005, a text-based sim. I'm taking over Fresno State with the coaching persona of Kurt Meloy. I have conference movement set to low and a playoff in place (16 teams, conference champs plus wildcards), though bowl games are still played for non-playoff participants. I'm starting the clock in 1971 because I can, though all the conference alignments are as of 2005.

June 1, 1971 �

Fresno State AD John Farmer announced the hiring of the newest Bulldog head coach in a press conference today. Kurt Meloy, a 50-year-old Oregon State graduate, takes the job without prior head coaching experience. Queried on his coaching philosophy, Meloy said that he prefers to field an option offense and a 4-3 defense. �I know this represents a rather drastic shift from before,� he commented, �but we�ll be doing everything we can to get the players comfortable with the changes so we can get down to the business of winning.� Langston and Meloy both made it clear that with a hire so close to the start of the season, the other existing staff would be kept on for the 1971 season. �I�m more of a big-picture guy anyway, and I like having a lot of input in gameplanning and playcalling from my coordinators, so having guys that are already familiar with the players will help a lot.�

The offensive coordinator is 50-year old Mississippi State graduate Larry Brady, a West Coast offense aficionado. Meloy commented that Brady�s skill in motivating and gameplanning, as well as his skill in scouting quarterbacks, would help in the transition to an option offense. The Bulldog defense boasts coordinator Gary Ruffin, a 43-year-old graduate of Tulane. Though Cooper prefers the 5-2 defense, Graney said that his motivational and gameplanning skills would be up to the task of scheming the 4-3 as well. The special teams are headed by 37-year-old Florida State graduate Walter Baker, who is highly respected in coaching circles for his motivational skills.
