Eight years ago today, I was awaking to a bright sunny day, and a trip to go to clean out my car (it was totaled) and do some research in the library on a new car.
Usually, on my off days at work (still to this day), I sleep late (probably till about 9:30 - 10am), but work up just before 9 am this day. First thing I did was flip on the TV to watch SportCenter highlights or the local news here on Channel 12. Imagine my shock when I saw the sight of black smoke pouring out of the ... Read More

Well, after watching good ol' Shea being torn down, I wondered when my time to visit the new home of the Amazin's would come. Low and behold, for my birthday, I was able to score some tickets to two games (games against the Cards and Cubs).
Last night (6/23) was the first of the games. I took along my fiance -- I mean, is there anyone else I could have taken , and we ventured out to the new digs. We arrived at the park about 4:30 - 5pm, so that we could actually park at the ... Read More

As I write this blog, I shed a tear at the senseless loss of a human life.
Death, as we are all taught at a young age, usually comes when you turn old and grey -- essentially living a full and long life. I used to take life for granted -- you know, everyday was just "another day". As I got older, of course, my outlook has changed. It came even more so as I heard of the tragic passing of a young pitcher on the Angels - Nick Adenhart.
Of course, why it made major ... Read More

I must confess. I am going to see the new "Marley and Me" movie soon after Christmas. Whew - that felt better getting off my chest.
See, I grew up my whole life around "the family dog". My first was a female mini border collie who was named "Misty". I was still a gleam in the eye of my parents when they got the dog, so I had no help in naming the dog. She was a trusted dog, often outside "chasing" our two albino rabbits around the back yard.
After she had passed, ... Read More

Well, I must say - kudos Valve!
Why am I saying this? Because, in a simple word, I was wrong ("dead" wrong as it were) about their most recently released title - Left 4 Dead. I was able to play the beta of the game (thanks to a good friend), and my first impressions were that, for all intents and purposes - the game stunk. Usually, I have an open mind about games and give them their due (see MLB 2k8 - thanks to the save to hard drive feature, the game seems reborn to me) and ... Read More

As the holidays approach, I am finding out what it truly means to be thankful. As some of you know, this past October (the 2nd, actually), I became a victim of the dreaded words "downsizing", or better yet "R.I.F.T-ed (reduction in force). Each day that passes, I seem to lose a little of what made me, well, me. Resumes get sent out, calls made -- all in the hopes of somehow landing a job that pays something as the economy slides into a deeper hole. I've fallen into a bad funk lately - it seems ... Read More

Yes indeed. After spending the better part of 3 years in my current pad, I am going to be leaving by the first of the year.
My brother and his wife are moving (well, rather renting for now) into a house about 5 minutes from where I live now. He asked if I would like to take the upstairs part of the house, which is a nicer area than what I live in now. Two bedrooms, a den like area, and a kitchen - who could ask for more? I'll tell you, I won't miss the falling tiles on my head ... Read More

Man, I wish I could be a "front-runner" fan. You know those guys - the ones with the T-shirts and jackets on with the winning team logo on - yet if you ask them anything, they don't know squat about the team. No, I have to settle on rooting for some either outright dreadful teams, or one that has given me heartbreak the past few years.
