May Recap: Thunder Cool Off After Hot Start

The Thunder got off to a strong start in 2018, winning 11 of their first 16 games. The team has cooled off considerably, though, as Jay Bell�s club finished April 13-11, third in the division and 2.5 games back of the first-place Portland Sea Dogs.

All around, the Thunder look like a middle-of-the-pack team. Their offense is 5th in RS, and then pitching is 4th in RA. The rotation has the 6th-best ERA and looks terribly shaky. Albert Abreu has a 8.27 ERA in 5 games, Dillon Tate�s ERA stands at 6.38, and the �best� of the bunch is Nick Nelson�s 4.05 ERA. Adonis Rosa was called up after putting up a .84 ERA in 5 games with Tampa.

The bullpen isn�t much better, as it ranks 5th with a 3.28 ERA. Closer JP Feyereisen has a 4.05 ERA and James Reeves has an unsettling 5.56 ERA. There are sine bright spots among the bullpen mediocrity. Jose Mesa Jr. has a 2.08 ERA, and Joe Harvey�s is 0.84 in 10 innings.

Offensively, things aren�t really clicking. Some players, like Kyle Holder (.351 average) and Abaital Avelino (.402 average) are shining while others are struggling, like Estevan Florial (.217) and Jhalan Jackson (2.15.) First baseman Chris Gittens deserves some love; he�s put up a .304 average in the starting 1B job after Ryan McBroom went down with an injury.

Kellin Deglan, in a small sample size, has looked great (.500 average in 6 games) since retuning from a previous injury.

It�s too early to fully judge this team but many fans are disappointed with the Thunder right now.
