Covering the Florida Panthers in GM Connected league ALHL2

Game 1 || @ Pittsburgh Penguins || W 6-3

The stage was set. Henrik Sedin. Daniel Sedin. Twin teamates no longer. Lots of hype heading into the game.

Henrik Sedin went into Pittsburgh and imposed his will. He cashed in on 2 goals as the Panthes rolled 6-2. The game was never really close. Ryan Ellis and Cam Barker scored from downtown in the 1st period and the Panthers never looked back.

Joe Pavelski had a fine game as the Panthers new 2nd line center. He added in a goal and an assist.

Overall a great effort by the Panthers. That was the main story here. Daniel Sedin is still looking for his name in the scoresheet, because he can't seem to find it. Neither can we.

Game 2 || @ New York Islanders || L (SO) 3-2

This was a tough one to take. The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in this game. Stephen Weiss opened the scoring. Justin Fontaine got his first NHL goal to make it 2-0 Panthers.

Then Milan Lucic happened. He jobbed Markstrom in front of the net and cashed in. Later on he scored some bogus goal. It was destined to go to a shootout.

Oh, did we mention Rick DiPietro started this game? Sure, nice move by the Mullet to get Ricky D a start against his former team. We were fine with his performance until the shootout.

The Isles scored unlimited goals. 8 rounds in New York scored, converting on their 6th goal. Ricky D couldn't anything. First loss of the season, if you want to call it that.

GAME 3 || vs. Tampa Bay Lightning || W (OT) 5-4

0.8 seconds. That's the time left in the OT period when Joe Pavelski beat the Bolt's Rike Helenius. We had fears of another shootout meltdown until Mr. Clutch Joe Pavelski stole the game. Just ripped it by that Finnish dude.

A little troubling was the pace of the game. Lots of back and fourth scoring. Jacob Markstrom let in perhaps one of the most ridiculous goals we've ever seen. He's off to a tough start but is still 2-0.

The stars for the Panthers came out in this one. Sedin, Neal, Mueller, and Antropov all scored in addition to Pavelski. Huberdeau still hasn't scored but got on the board with 2 assists, giving him 3 points so far this season. Look out when he starts putting the puck in the net.

TRADE CITY 2014

Since we did our last post, the Panthers have made a couple of trades. Let's take a took at the two deals and see who's coming and going.

- TOMAS FLEISHMANN to MTL for JARRED TINORDI

We're not surprised to see Fleish go here. His $4.5 million salary was alot to pay a guy who was going to be a 3rd liner. So before the season they dealt him away to the Canadiens. In return the Panthers get a huge defenseman in Tinordi. At 6'7'' he gives the Cats alot of size and more importantly adds another young star back there.

We all assumed with the trade of Fleishmann the Panthers were all in on Tyler Ennis becoming a 2nd line player. Until....

- TYLER ENNIS to BUF for DEAN SAUNDERS and KEVIN SUNDHER

Ok, this one was surprsing. Ennis is still very young and just signed a new deal this past summer for a couple years. Nobody expected the Panthers to trade Ennis.

He did fail to record a point in the first 3 games, and didn't seem to fit well on a line with Pavelski and Neal. Ennis had a nice year scoring 20 last season, but still not the 28 he had in his last year with Buffalo.

So Buffalo gets their guy back, and the Cats get the 5th overall pick in the draft this past summer. Saunders is a big player with some skill. Everyone is excited but the question is can he play this season? Only time will tell. No idea as to their plans with him or Sunder. He is a former 3rd round pick of Buffalo's and will come into an organizaiton with no center depth so we are happy to get him in the deal as well.
