With word of the new edition of the NFL title Madden Football making some major improvements to this years franchise mode, a little bit of a smile cracked on the side of my ugly mug. Some of these improvements have been long awaited by many of us maddenheads, such as expanded rosters, editable draft classes, and a real IR system. These changes alone have me popping the madden tent. I'm a stickler for realistic sports experiences in the gaming world. I don't think EVERY single title out there needs to recreate real life, I love RPG's, I don't want Final Fantasy or Zelda characters looking like my buddy Jimmy. Back to sports meat. Editing rosters is such a great add. I love this in the NBA2K titles. I'm not changing Omer Asik into a perenial allstar, but sometimes a player needs to be adjusted according to real life situations during a franchise, and once started, one can't update the rosters. Example: if some undrafted rookie has a heck of a season in real life, I might go into the rosters and make him better, to more realistically reflect themselves. The ability to do this is greatly welcomed. Editing draft classes is going to be where that comes in huge though. Last year was a constant struggle to get realistic draft classes, the randomness being too much. Good to see they cut down on that, and made editing those rookies available. If, just as an example, Andrew Luck has a Jake Locker season, I can make him as so, he will go maybe somewhere in the middle of the first round instead of the definite number one. The last feature I'll hit on like a mac daddy is the IR. It's about time they implimented an actual IR. Freeing up that roster spot is the whole reason for the system.
