MLB The Show 17 News Post

I’m based in the UK, and my knowledge of sports such as baseball, basketball and American football is limited. I’ve always taken a great interest in the NHL since discovering EA Sports’ series back in ‘98, but those other sports have somewhat passed me by. Sure, I used to play Madden, NBA 2K/Live and past series such as High Heat: Major League Baseball when I was younger, but I never really sampled them to their fullest.

Last year, I detailed my more in-depth experiences with both Madden NFL 16 and NBA 2K17. Now, I’m doing the same with MLB The Show 17 -- the first iteration of the series I’ve ever properly owned. Until a few weeks ago, modes such as Diamond Dynasty and Road to the Show meant nothing to me. I didn’t know the difference between meter and analog pitching. I didn’t even have a favorite MLB team back then (I do now!).

With a couple of weeks playtime under my belt, this is my opportunity to give you some first impressions from a self-confessed noob.

Welcome to the Show Fraser. My own opinion is dynamic difficulty is the way to go, even for us non-noobs.

Nice write up! I agree Retro Mode could've gotten a bit more love for the wacky ones like us.

Well written! Maybe someday our teams will play a couple games in the UK like the NFL does.

I really hope they do, there was a story a couple years ago that something was in place but nothing ever came of it. The thing is we don't really have a stadium big enough to hold a baseball game

I didn't really think of that but that is a good point, a football (what we call soccer) stadium can be converted easily enough to american football, but baseball would be harder. Although there are football stadiums in the U.S that can accommodate baseball, so anything is possible with some work!

Yeah our soccer stadium are basically just the pitch and then seats, there's just not the space inside to configure a baseball diamond and our cricket grounds, like they used in Australia, are quite small that it would be like playing in a softball stadium

The only one they could use, size wise, is the Olympic stadium but that would be horrible IMO

Zzzzz.great write up. But this is a BAD BAD GAME RIGHT NOW! We mostly lose tIME playing games, but it's nice to earn some rep, achieve a goal, but do to greed and bad management by SDS they've sold us a RTTS and that's all! All the other great stuff and graphics is a heartbeat away from being criminal. I had hoped a month into the game it would be fixed, but after 200 hours of lost stats, cash, etc., Without any reimbursement, I'm about to toss away 80 euros and go back to Destiny. Sorry. But great ad. I'm klg77614 on ps4

Great article, I've been a baseball fan in the U.K. For a few years but this is my first year playing The Show. Really enjoying it.

you say you have a favorite team now?? Which one do you follow now? I would tend to think most Europeans would follow east coast teams like the Yankees or Red Sox. Nice article btw.

Thanks!

It's the San Francisco Giants. I just love the splash hits/kayakers in McCovey Cove.

I never really see any MLB merch in the UK, but if I do, it's almost always Yankees baseball caps.
