MLB The Show 17 News Post

With the ongoing frustration many MLB The Show 17 fans have had online so far this year, the team has posted a quick update for the community.

While they have addressed a number of online gameplay issues, they continue to work on the outstanding issues, with plans to release a new patch soon.

Make sure to read the note below, as it contains some information on the queue process in general, online franchise changes to speed up the amount of time to process leagues and more. Due to the issues, the team promises to give in-game content to all of you, but no specifics have been announced yet.

Quote:
Our top priority every year with the MLB The Show franchise is to create the most authentic baseball game on the market. We push ourselves to include as many additions and improvements as possible, with the end goal of giving users an enjoyable experience across all game modes. We’re proud of so much that made it in this year, but we haven’t been satisfied with certain areas in The Show 17.

Since launch, we have identified and addressed a number of issues related to online gameplay – from freezes and hangs, to longer than normal wait times for the game processing queue. We’re still all hands on deck working to remedy outstanding issues.

There’s been some confusion about queue processing in general, and we’d like to provide insight into the changes we’ve made since launch to how the system works. When a game completes properly (i.e. both users finish to the end), scores should post quickly with no queue message. The back end has been refined to ensure the win/loss is updated immediately, but the rest of the stats from the game might take more time to process. When a game ends prematurely, due to a user disconnect or other abnormal action, the system is designed to take extra time to process, allowing the game to post correctly. In regards to the Online Franchise, changes are in place to help shorten the amount of time required to process leagues.

We have been and continue to work hard to resolve the remaining issues; a new patch is currently underway and we are committed to updating you as soon as we have new information to report. We appreciate all of the valuable feedback and reports the community has sent our way. Understandably, this can be a frustrating time for many of you, and in acknowledgement of that frustration we are planning to give in-game content to all of you. More info on that to come soon.

Thank you all for your patience. You are being heard, and we are truly grateful that we have such a passionate community.

And to think, SOME users on here said San Diego Studio would just leave this game be and wait 'til next year.

Because that's "more profitable."

I can't stand cynics. Always looking for a reason to be sad.

Yay for us, and yay for the dev team!

Honestly, this is the message they should have sent out over a week ago. Just one message like this making sure the community knows you're listening to their complaints, trying to fix things and understand that it's been unacceptable. Could have made life a lot easier on themselves.

Good to see them properly acknowledge their mistakes though and making more of an effort to keep us in the loop. More of this please

People are never satisfied. They post this and right away someone jumps on to say this should have been done a while ago. If they keep posting like people suggest, they will be told that they should spend less time posting and more time working on the game.

I know it's frustrating, I know it's not working right and I'm not happy about it either but I've used the time to try and build my team with game gotten stubs and missions and am looking forward to when it's ready to go online.

Nice to hear the content will be given, I would think it'll be a 20 pack for diamond dynasty but I'm ok with that. Something to say sorry is fine with me.

Good to hear they are addressing things though I had no doubt that they were

Would have been nice for them to acknowledge more than just the online issues. Here's hoping the next patch covers more than that.

They did. They mention working to resolve remaining issues and that they are working on another patch.

But the online issues are so bad right now they really need to get them sorted before anything else

Correct...there are things I'd like to see worked on but I'm ok if the first patch solely addresses online stability.

As someone who despises all the Diamond Dynasty grind BS that's taken over MLBTS and who would like to see Franchise receive proper love, I can't help feeling some schadenfreude over these server issues. Sorry.

Hopeful the next patch puts the server issues in the past, and it's nice they'll be giving out free content .

I hope they address the amount of home runs online. I know they keep track of stats and this has to be reflected in their patch. Whether it's a tuner or w/e because online just isn't enjoyable as a home run derby.

What are we yaying here? Games are still not processing like they are claiming. Everything is pretty much worse post patch.

A pretty frustrating thing just happened to me that is pretty inexcusable, imo. RTTS is a supposed offline mode. Long story short, I'm in year 4 of my career and had just gotten benched in the big league club to start the year. I'm working my tail off to play good and get back into the lineup. Well, just tonight after I finish up games, it starts taking forever for me to get back into the RTTS menu, the little spinning wheel that says "hey we're working on getting you to the menu." Well after a few times of it taking awhile but ultimately getting me to the menu, this final time it prompted me that I lost connection to The Show Online.

Ok? This shouldn't effect me in the slightest amount because I am in RTTS. But low and behold, the game is stuck somewhere in between the last game and the RTTS menu. Just the blue background screen with the music still playing and changing songs as if nothing changed. Of course, I haven't saved my progress because that's just fitting right?

Little stuff like this is super frustrating for mainly offline players, like myself. Online features effecting offline features. Really hope this kind of stuff can get fixed.

It is a completely offline mode. But the game attempts to connect to the servers to update your universal profile (stats, XP, etc.)

But you're absolutely right that that shouldn't have caused a softlock.

I'm getting server errors too when exiting games right now, so for now at least you might want to un-check "connect to the internet" in the PS4 network options. Your offline games will not be interrupted that way.

I hate this attitude -- it's what gives these video game developers the leeway to constantly keep us in the dark on matters when aspects of the game are in horrendous shape. Offline the game plays beautifully, but online it barely works half the time. There's a myriad of problems that need to be fixed and hopefully they are ironed out soon.

Offline, I fortunately haven't experienced any issues. That's great, but we pay for a full experience. I'm not naive enough to think that games should launch with no problems, but there's things that are happening to myself and others that actually affect the outcome of games. That's unacceptable to me.

This is a wonderful game otherwise and I know things will improve at some point, but I wish statements like this came sooner from these companies. I know there's a lot of men and women who poured themselves into making the game, and care deeply about our experience with it. However, it often comes across like once they get that $60 from you that it doesn't matter to them anymore.

Agreed. Yay to the dev team my arse. I'm sure they're all wonderful people, I'm sure they work hard, and I'm sure they care. Just like I'm sure that when a product has issues like this a week-late apology shouldn't be celebrated as if it were an act of charity. And yes, online issues affect offline modes since the game locks and gets screwy. I love the Show and I HATE the Show. The devs need to FIX this, and then they need to make it up to their loyal customers, and not with a batch of crappy cards.

Wait, there are people that are actually satisfied with this PR message?

This addresses nothing, it's just a list of excuses for crap that should not exist in the first place, like explaining how the queue works.... There should be no queue at all.

And a few hours after they issue this statement, the entire game craps out, and now at least the queue problem is solved... If you cannot play at all, there is nothing to queue at all.
It has been 17 freaking days... The Japanese can build an entire highway in half that time, these clowns cannot even plug in a few extra servers...

Indeed. The Show is really losing credibility this year. Online modes = profit, but screw with people's time and STILL profit? It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

No, I know it is an entirely offline mode, that was more or less for effect of my frustration haha but good thought, never thought about disconnecting from the internet. This is also my first time buying digitally so am unsure as to if that may have affected something in the process. Regardless, it needs fixed and shouldn't happen like that in the first place.
