NHL 18 News Post

It’s almost that time of year again! Before you know it, we’ll be inundated with new information regarding the latest iteration of EA’s long-running hockey series. As we get ever closer to that date, it’s time to get our brains into gear and think about what we’re hoping to see in EA’s upcoming addition to the franchise.

What do we know about NHL 18 so far? Very little. It seems doubtful the Frostbite engine will make its debut, given there's been no indication of its inclusion during EA’s recent earnings conference call.

Here at OS, we’ve always loved creating wishlists for our favorite games, and the NHL series is no exception. I’ve used this opportunity to detail both my own personal desires for NHL 18, as well as including some items found in our forums over the past few months.

I'm a franchise mode player so here's my list. Just a couple things I would really enjoy to see, a lot of which have been hit on already:

1. Roster Sharing

2. Long Term Injured Reserve

3. Playable Winter Classic

4. Playable All-Star game with skill competition

5. Playable/Immersive World Juniors. Maybe your prospects go to World J's and grow a bit, or you go scout some of the draft eligible players there.

6. College free agents/NCAA Players. Don't see this happening any time soon but it would be pretty damn sweet.

7. KHL Free Agents. Again, don't see this happening any time soon.

8. Different team strategies differing based on coach. Babcock and Toronto should have a different playing style than Torts and the Jackets.

9. Full team control in GM Mode. This would make the trade deadline more interesting and I could actually improve other teams since their GMs rarely make a bold move.

10. More in-depth scouting- I should be able to scout specific players, not just leagues

11. Real life Coaches, General Managers, etc. Firing them could be seen as controversial or a great move, would add another element to the game mode

12. Some kind of news bulletin board/video recap of what went on in the NHL that week. Maybe add in Top 3 Stars of the week, players might get a boost to their ratings for that?

13. Similar to the morale system (which needs a little bit of work), bring back hot and cold streaks for franchise. Would have to be done right but it would be cool to see a guy who's been on fire get some nice attribute bumps mid-season.

14. Playoff atmosphere. I usually change up my sliders when the playoffs roll around but bigger crowds and tougher play should happen when playoffs roll around. When I score a goal in OT, the place should ERUPT.

15. Have goalies use the reverse VH. A guy like Vasilevskiy should drop into it as soon as the puck is anywhere close to the goal line.

16. Goal reviews. I should be able to challenge for goalie interference/potential offsides.

17. Out of town scores during games.

18. Getting kicked out of the Faceoff circle.

19. Home team gets that valuable final change.

20. Custom music.

What I'd like to see, especially with the new Ignite Engine if it's included in the NHL 18, is that players actually interact with the boards. For me, It would be the game changer, since now you'll have to actually interact the puck with your stick to be able to get your team in position.

Just hoping that this feature is not too far fetched.

This isn't my idea and I apologize to the OS member who first turned me on to the concept (and yes, it did turn me on).

Weapons:
Various special skills that only certain players have access to.
Some examples; Needle Threader, Phonebooth, One-Timer, Snipe, Destroyer, Glove Save, etc.

If a player has one of these, their abilitiy to thread a pass, deke in high coverage, get off an accurate, hard one timer, snipe top shelf, kill someone with a hit, or flash some leather, will be greater than other players.

And some players can have multiple abilities.

My biggest, and longest gripe about this series is that player types are not separated enough.
Every player pretty much feels the same. There needs to be much larger player separation, or skill separation between players and player types.

I think EA should put a fans system in the cheerer mode and everytime you win you win fans and they wear your jearsy on the stands and when you loose you loose fans and it just makes it more immersive for the players i hope it gets put in and listened to thankyou
