It's a little startling to see the ratings come down across the board like this. I know that it's supposed to set Trout and Kershaw to be that much better than everyone else at the top, but I'll be interested to see if the high-70s guys are closer to the stars in terms of how good they actually are or if this is just overall ratings going down still with a big difference between the all-stars and the regulars.

The ratings seem a lot less forgiving than in years past. Really makes you appreciate the top tier guys.

Loving these ratings

Donaldson as the top 3rd baseman?
I'd take Bryant, Arenado, or machado over him any day. Heck, maybe even Beltre

He should have one, if not 2. All around I would take Arenado over Donaldson every day of the week. Arenado is so underated among baseball people.

I like Arenado and he was pretty much my 3B on my DD team for most of the time i played. He gets dinged because he has a relatively short track record and he plays in Colorado 81 games a year. If his stats are even close to another 3B he is going to get knocked down a peg because of that.

Ah, time for the yearly ritual of complaints about ratings

*Insert Player Name* from the *insert favorite team* should be rated higher. What were they thinking?

No way *Insert name highly ranked Player* is better than *Insert name of lower ranked player*.

Folks need to remember a couple of things
  1. The rating is based on a 3 year average not just last year (50%/25%/25% roughly)
  2. It is not subjective. You may not agree with the rating methodolgy but it is a computation that is made and not the devs subjective opinions.

Trea Turner getting a lot of love this year. That is nice to see as I love this kid’s game.

3 year average man.

He was great last year but the year before he was 9-15 with an era of 4.92 and the year before that he was 15-13 with a 3.43

Those years account for 50% of his rating.

The good news for me is that the rarity of Cardinals near the top of their respective positions means that I can probably complete that collection without breaking the stubs bank.

I agree with the Coors Field effect. But Toronto is a launching pad as well. Many players have put up career years playing with Toronto

Fangraphs FIP based war park adjusted..

Donaldson 7.6 WAR
Arenado 5.2 WAR

Not to mention Donaldson won MVP the year before and was the 2nd best WAR in baseball only to Trout..

It's not even close. In fact I'm surprised he's not higher... Plate discipline has a role in that, which is why Bryant is better too

What I don't agree with is how Altuve is 97 compared to Donaldson 94, Bryant 94, Betts 93.. he's rated 3-4 higher and isn't better than any of them. Not in war or anything really, but speed.. they adjust ratings for 2B too strongly. Like last year.. guys like Sandberg were 94 with crap hitting ratings.. Altuve should be a 94 at best.. Not the 2nd highest rated player

Looks good to me although I would move Matt Carpenter to about an 87-88 range.
