If you love games where you can strategize and multitask to build up an empire, you might want to keep an eye on MLB The Show 17 – we’ve found that many gamers, even those who aren’t big sports fans, get a huge kick out of this year’s new Franchise mode.
Hmm I have never thought of the show as having one of the deepest franchise modes. I love the show. Favorite game. But franchise mode has been lagging behind since the switch to ps4.
NBA 2k is certainly deeper. Madden has a deeper franchise mode (even though the game play is iffy). Fifa is deeper. I haven't played NHL in a couple years so I cannot speak on that.
Again, love the show. Baseball is the best sport and out of any sport could have the most in depth franchise possible. There's still a lot missing from the mode.
I can't speak on Fifa I don't play soccer. NHL..MLB has them beat.
Madden? Come on I gotta disagree big time. The SHow has all the contracts, off-season activities etc you would expect a deep franchise mode to have. Rule 5 draft, salary arbitration, exclusive rights, minor league options, etc etc etc. Madden does not even have Restricted Free Agency. Player development is XP based (which I don't mind BTW) vs training on MLB.
The Show is far deeper than Madden.
NBA2K17 is a fantastic game and has a rich and deep My League mode. No argument there.
But The Show is deep. I think it get's sold short because there has not been a lot that has changed over the years other than player morale and now this cool player quirks which I am very much looking forward too!
I would say they are a notch below 2K and ahead of Madden and NHL. I do know FiFa is deep I just have never played it. And I did not consider FIFA part of the big 4 sports in North America (whole other conversation, but Soccer bores me to tears to watch LOL but FIfA is a fun game in my limited time with it ).

You honestly did make a lot of good points. I think customization is tthe highest thing that lacks in franchise mode for the Show.
Nothing much new in this video, the menus do look really slick.
Really hoping for a better progression system, really don't want to have to suffer through another year of the current system. Also I feel really bad for the online guys, not looking promising. Here's hoping for a big reveal on Thursday.
Well this video was nothing new. Really discouraged by how many 16 features were re-iterated in the video. Hoping for a better progression/regression system reveal on Thursday.
Still, quick manage is to much of a quality of life improvement for me personally to pass up on.
I think many people might be getting their expectations too high on this year's franchise. Like, I'm not sure what else they can add to franchise mode this year that already isn't in the game.
-Minor league stat tracking
-More minor league levels
-Ability to trade for more the 3 players
-Ability to take on contracts in trades
-Ability to offer opt outs in contracts
-Better regression and progression
-better draft/scouting
-Ability to offer extensions mid season
-Non roster spring training invites
-Minor league contracts
And not to mention all the GM stuff people have been asking for

Ramone mentioned it yesterday in another thread, but there has been MILLIONS of PS4's sold in the last year. LOTS of new users (tens of thousands or maybe in the hundreds of thousands?) will be buying and playing The Show for the first time ever. Or at least the first time this generation. So I get why some of these Gamestop videos and such are talking about features that long time purchasers of the game are already familiar with.
Agreed. I would love to see a lot more customization as well. Expansion mode and relocation would be amazing. Also being able to customize the league to old school AL East AL West NL East NL West, and remove the wild card would be a dream for classic roster guys like myself.
Plenty of opportunity in that department. Totally with you on that.

Yep no doubt. Those things would be sick. And I hope they really look at that; now that they do not have to focus on 2 systems anymore (PS3). The game visually looks like it got a real boost for this year. Maybe now for the next couple of cycles (18,19) they can add to an already solid franchise mode to make it even deeper and more immersive with these types of features that ooze baseball management.

It would be great to see an international signing period.
I would like the coaches to have there career numbers and have them matter more.
Have the winter meetings be a an important time. I am talking getting many trade offers during those days.
I agree with everything you said. ESPECIALLY taking on contracts in trades. being a small market team and being able to trade for a good player and having to take on there 20mill+ salary is tough. If the other team could take 15mill of it that could open up a bevy of opportunities for small market teams.

Gotta disagree with you here Armor, while I think The Show is better in pretty much every aspect, I think Madden has it beat in Franchise.
I think the key part for me is Madden's franchise is more immersive than the Show's. Madden has the twitter posts, the stories screen, draft dialogue by Adam Schefter. In the show there is the radio show, which was awful in 15, but much improved in 16. They announcers in 16 also mentioned your opponents team how they were doing recently at the start of each game. Besides those things, I never feel truly connected to the league. They reduced the hot/cold streak page which in ps2 days you could see the whole league. Now you can only see 10 guys from around the league. It's much harder imo to be immersed in franchise.
The progression system is an eye sore for Franchise mode, with guys it's so predictable, they always hit a wall at age 35 season. Or having guys like Trout fall off at age 32 because of their service time. It's needs an upgrade.
Probably the reason everyone gives franchise mode a bad rap like you said is the lack of innovation/ new features the past 3-4 years.
The two big features I can recall added recently are the expanded stat tracking and the carry over saves. I think most franchise players would want to see a big feature addition every year. Whether people are going to consider quirks a big feature additon is up to them.
The morale system added last year looked great on paper, but at least for me it had no effect on how I managed my ball club. It seemed meaningless and I overlooked it. Now if they tweaked it in 17, where an upset player would hurt the morale of the whole team not just himself, and possibly refuse to resign with a team due to how upset he was the previous season. Then I would consider the feature a substantial feature that immersed me into the mode. As of right now though, it doesn't really effect the user's experience.
Another thing that has bothered me and this isn't really related to comparing it to madden at this point. Is the fact from around 2012-2016 it seemed every year that scouting was their main focus on improving franchise. Yet despite this, the scouting system still seems similar to mlb 08,09,10 scouting system.
These have been my issues with franchise mode in the past 3-4 years. In 2010 I would have considered it the deepest franchise mode out of the big 4 sport video games. Not so any longer.

For the winter meetings to make any sense they need to make the trade process a negotiation, instead of just yes or no. So someone ask about one of your players and you counter with a big ask, they come back with a lower offer and you try and meet in the middle. That's how trades work, you don't just plonk an offer on someones table and wander off if they refuse

I would still say Madden is deeper. It has a relocation option, with new jerseys, stadium etc. It has ticket prices, concessions, jersey sales, a fairly well detailed list of where each team ranks in the league on MANY categories.
No, madden's is far from perfect. But I dont know how anyone could say its not deeper when it has all the $$$ aspects of it that the Show has lacked. The show was fun when it had promotions, tickets, concessions etc..until the dev team dropped the bomb that NONE of that ever mattered. I do think they will eventually get back to that. But its been an extremely slow process.
Lets face it, as baseball fans we all know Baseball would be the best sport to have all the financial aspects in the franchise mode as its all based on budget. All the other sports have a cap room. Baseball is unique, and it would be great to take over a small market team, or an expansion team and over X amount of year's turn them into a big market team with 40,000+ in the seats.
I was happy with the morale additions last year. I like when the players have a personality, rather then being numbers. I thought it was a great addition that can be taken even further. But the show is still far away from having a full featured franchise mode that even comes close to real life.

I completely agree. And even though of the 4 major sports NBA is my least favorite I am drawn to there MYGM mode because of how amazing it truly is, and the work they have put into it is staggering. And they did all that the same year the PS4/XB1 came out.
I know the way a basketball team is run and an MLB team is are completely different. In NBA you can have a player come in every couple weeks, complain about playing time and it makes sense since its the NBA. In the MLB it wouldnt be quite like that. But I want a mode very similar to the MYGM setup in 2k.
I think trade negotiations would be a huge step forward. As you said, rather then just a simple yes or no. A tug of war type of negotiation. Who can get the most out of who? Have it take place over a few days, or a couple weeks if neeed be. As they are in real life. Whether then one day, yes/no. Okay onto the next option.

Yup, there is a lot of improvements that could be done as the mode is very oversimplistic at the moment, but obviously they decided to prioritise other areas this year. Hopefully they have at least tweaked things like the AI and fixed some of the issues on 16, especially with trade logic.
Having seen all the things that haven't changed, I seriously hope they have at least worked hard to develop last years big addition of morale, as it was a nice idea very dodgily implemented. It could probably be fixed as easily as just removing the stupid money factor, that we have no control over and causes any good player under team control to be miserable.
wheres EXPANSION ....WHERES ANYTHING NEW?????????? they give you the option of playing faster, thats really NOTHING TO ME...i love the length of franchise just fine....WHERES EXPANSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
