NBA 2K17 News Post

Growing up as an '80s baby, I was introduced to sports VERY early on. The last sport I was introduced to was basketball. I'll never forget "Mickey Dordan" as I used to call His Airness; I was three. As I grew older and followed the elegance that was basketball, I always stuck to the Chicago Bulls. They were the first team I got to see play on TV. Michael Jordan was the first player I got to know.

I scrutinize and criticize everything the team does. Sometimes I like to think that I could probably run the team better than Gar Forman, so why not try to rebuild the Bulls to the greatness they once were? That's when I blew the dust off of my PS4 and booted up good old NBA 2K17. And that's where this fantastic voyage begins.

I mean, that is a way to do it.. It's not really realistic in the slightest, but you managed it. The trades are horrible.

LOL agreed. Whatever floats your boat I guess. I used to make trades like this when I was like 14 playing 2K5. Not my thing anymore.

Interesting read. But honestly, you got a lot of luck there with the Cavs Injuries, then the Rockets screwing up as bad as possible...James Harden on the bench in OT??? That's an Atlanta Falcons level choke there. How different would your story be if the Bulls were bounced by the Cavs in the 2nd round. This is no better than what they had been doing over the past 5 years.

Damn that trade logic sounds horrible.

Lol here's what I did. Traded Rondo and Lopez for Whiteside and Austin Rivers. Picked up Zach Randolph of FA, he signed for the low and I picked up Livingston for some size in the back court. Then I traded for Sabonis for a big man with some range.

Viola...best team in the east. Lol @ 2K's trade logic tho. One day it'll be fixed....one day

To each their own. Every year I play MyGM mode and play a 82 gm season. The second season, I either play a second season as the same team, or if there have been crazy trades in the NBA, I will start a new season with a different team. But I always buy the team the second season for 50k VC.

This season, I just finished my season with coincidentally the Bulls. I went 68-15 and defeated the warriors for the Chip. In 2k16, I Played with the TWolves and lost to the warriors in the conference finals. In 2k15, I played with the Kings and won the chip by defeating the Cavs.

I play 10 minutes qtrs on HOF simulation, no sliders. I get realistic stats, and a good challenge. As far as trades, I do them , but I do not do anyhting that will drastically change my teams. My team overall was normally 14th , but it fluctuated anywhere between 11th and 19th based on injuries and hot streaks.

The biggest trade I did was taj Gibson and a pick for Kenneth Faried. I needed some more athleticism in the front court. Also, I wanted to start Mirotic to space the floor, and Gibson was not happy with that. With Faried, he has the low ego badge, so he did not complain nearly as much.

But I had one all-star (Wade). Rondo led the league in assists at 11. Butler averaged 19 in the season and 21 in the playoffs. Wade averaged 20 in the season and 19 in the playoffs. But Lopez was the Finals MVP with a 19ppg and 15rpg avg. against the warriors.

If you really think about it, isn't playing video games in general just a big waste of time?

How did I turn the Bulls into a championship team? I just traded the entire team for an entirely new team.

This game's trade logic actually isn't this bad if you turn the difficulty of trades to 100. OP should have done that instead. Then he will realize the fun in winning on MyGm, not with INSANE trades but instead it will be changing player tendencies for the whole team so the sqaud can perform better on both sides of the ball.

This games team building logic is just bad in general. Young players that are no brainers to be retained by their team are often unrestricted free agents after their rookie deal and it's disappointing. I really feel like I have to play God for my league/gm to work.

Maybe you don't actually follow the real NBA but after what just happened with Cousins I'm inclined to believe #SimNations idea of "realistic trades" is far from realistic.

This was a fun read. The writer clearly had fun building this team and that's all that really matters at the end of the day.

Well written piece as well. Kudos.

You can't take one trade that's an incredible outlier from a below average front office that's made a lot of questionable moves over the last few years and make it the precedent for the entirety of the NBA.. There are some weird trades in real life, but I don't think you'd see any of the ones that occurred on this post in real life. I mean it is just a game and all, but there's a point where you're just abusing the CPU.

The 2k trade logic doesn't let you make the trade that the King's made. So it's actually tougher than real life.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You've left me speechless.. I'm sure GarPax are examining this post right now and doing all they can to implement this plan next season because, as you said, 2K is more difficult to trade on and is the absolute authority on the NBA and trades. Screw what NBA GM's and people who have there career centered around the NBA think, 2K is where it's at. You're right. Sorry to question you or the 2K gods.

😂

Point being... if I had posted that Sacramento trade 2 weeks ago on here people would be slating me for it.

Also... let's remember the whole point of a video game is to have fun. There's no right way to play it.

the end roster looks like a "realistic" everyday roster.

Looks like he had fun building the roster.

I personally tend to raise the trade logic to 90. making very impossible to make trades. I also govern all trades made by the cpu to cpu, just to keep things balance.

I also implement a player point rating system to keep my team from becoming a super team right of the bat. I cap my team at a total player rating of 900, and I increase the points yearly based on the difference between wins and losses after a season. so if I go 50-32, Ill raise my my player cap total by 20. (I only play 29 game season with this method)

using this method plus a solid cap number, building a scrubby team takes some time

It took me 5 years, but I was able to win the Finals with the Bucks. Giannis and Parker were both injured this year, leading me to the #1 overall pick, I needed a PG, so I grabbed Lonzo Ball.

Ball was injured during his rookie season, which led me to having the #3 pick. This Detroit offered Andre Drummond and a 2nd round pick.

A middle of the road season, I drafted a SG at the end of the lottery.

Year 4 I traded Middleton and Henson for a top 5 protected 1st rounder. At the deadline, in position for a decent playoff berth, I was offered Porzingis for Parker and a future 1st(top 3 protected). Lost in the conference finals.

Went 67-15 the next season with Ball, cant remember the SG, Giannis, Prozingis and Drummond. Thon Maker won 6th man, and my new head coach, Paul Pierce, won coach of the year. Fell behind 3-2 after leading 2-0 against the Kings, then won the final 2, overcoming a 7 point deficit at home with 3 minutes left.

Ball was MVP, but missed game 7, Spencer Dinwiddie came off the bench to provide a surprising spark in a very difficult spot start.

Not the most realistic, but definitely was irritating losing during the beginning, then turning it around.

So, basically you did a fantasy draft, while the other 29 teams rolled with what they had.
