Retro mode is pretty much a one-button mode, but with surprising depth, and all the new animations, gameplay additions, and improvements found in the regular version of the game.
For example, in an effort to simplify the batter vs. pitcher battle, we’ve taken all the pitching attributes out and boiled them down to velocity, break, and control. Because there is no high and low in the strike zone, you have three pitches at your disposal that you can trigger with the touch of one button. To throw a fastball you hold down on the left analog stick and press X. To throw a changeup you hold up on the left analog stick and press X. And to throw a slider you press to the left or right on the left analog stick after the pitch is released.
One of the wrinkles we’ve added is that velocity is controlled by holding down or up on the analog stick just before the pitcher releases. In closing, you choose velocity before the pitch is thrown and you can affect movement (left or right) after the pitch is thrown.
Also revealed are two regional covers for MLB The Show 17. The Canadian version of the game will featured Aaron Sanchez and the Tawianese version of the game will feature Wei-Yin Chen.
I personally wouldn't be interested without retro mode. My favorite baseball games of all time were World Series Baseball which had a similar camera (first game with hot/cold players, minors). Just love the camera and ease of play. I can also bust it out with non gamer friends.
retro mode is such an awful idea, from a great game maker...add more to the game it self...or give us old rosters to celebrate GRIFFY...DON'T GIVE US AN OLD GAME
So since you don't like it, everyone else in the world must dislike it too.
Kinda like how no one likes beer. MAN is that stuff terrible.

It better have at least season play through.
I'm pretty sure world series was one of the first to use the hitting cameras like we use today. Unless u meant the action fielding camera? I could be wrong
While I personally doubt I spend much time with retro mode I can't really see a downside. They need to continue to find ways to bring in new players.
As we have seen year after year there are people who are dying to play some video game baseball but inevitably find hitting in MLB the show to be too hard.
Shoot maybe I will play some retro mode. I play Super Mega Baseball occasionally just for some arcade style BB fun.
Would have been a nice gesture by the folks at SCEA, to put Jose Fernandez on the cover in the Florida markets, and Ventura in the KC market.
Every state doesn't have its own market though that's not really a thing. They would just have to make all 3 covers available all over the US or something.
It would have been nice; I'd like a JF cover, but I can see where it would create a lot of unnecessary work for SCEA.

I think Retro mode will be a nice little addition. I think it will be fun to couch play with friends for sure. Shoot, if there is a simple season mode, my son and I may have to do a short season in it. I may even be able to get my wife and daugher to play that mode with us. So, I do see the mode being fun for sure.
Although, I will say I could do without the "retro sounds/music" in it. LOL!

I'm really hoping there is some sort of season mode within Retro mode. If not, my buddies and I will draw up our own leagues and play and track stats/standings just like the good ol days.

Actually, that may be more fun when I think about it. I have an iPad app that I use for real baseball games. I may use that.
