NHL 17 News Post

Another NHL 17 patch and tuner update is scheduled to release tomorrow morning. The update will also include a new game mode, Hockey Ultimate Team - Competitive Seasons. Read all of the details below.

UPDATE: (1-19) The patch is available now for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, weighing in at just over 300 MB.

HOCKEY ULTIMATE TEAM

Hockey Ultimate Team™ - Competitive Seasons

Competitive Seasons is a new game mode which allows players to compete in a “monthly” season format to earn in-game rewards. Each monthly season consists of rounds. Complete three games to earn round points which determine your ranking on the Round Leaderboards. At the end of each round, you will earn a reward as well as Season Points that count towards your season total. Finish as high as you can in each round to accumulate as many season points as possible to earn a larger reward at the end of the season.

*NOTE: Rounds and Season durations are subject to change.

GAMEPLAY (Tuner 1.02)

ALL MODES

Player Updates
  • Tuned down puck carrier’s reaction speed to reacquire a puck after losing it.
  • User Goalie Updates:
  • Increased ability to make saves in tight to their body and decreased ability when reaching to reward better puck tracking and cutting off angles.
  • Increased ability to make saves on cross grain shots by tuning movement so goalies will stay square even if the user is requesting to move away from the shot direction.
  • Increase save success on blocking saves.
  • Decreased the impact goalie movement to help promote puck tracking so that good angles and positioning mean the most for a goalie’s ability to make a save.
  • Decreased screen effect slightly.
  • Increased goalie speed for post-to-post movement.
  • Increased AI goalie’s awareness for a possible shot off a faceoff.
  • Increased ability to react after a save to increase their chance of getting back in position and making rebound saves.
  • Rolled back change from previous patch for the goalie occasionally getting stuck in butterfly as it was causing a worse knock on issue.
EASHL MODE ONLY

EASHL Player Class Updates

Goalies
  • Increased all goalie classes height to 6’2”.
  • Increased speed and agility of all goalies and added variance with Standup being the highest and Butterfly being the lowest.

  • Increased rebound control of all classes. Standup goalie’s will still have the lowest rating while Butterfly goalies will have the highest.
  • Increased poke check ability for all classes. Hybrid has the best poke check rating of the three classes and Butterfly has the lowest.
  • Hybrid goalie now has the best stick side and paddle down rating of the three classes.
  • Increased vision for all classes. Butterfly is still the lowest and Standup is still the highest.
  • Increased 5-hole rating for both the Hybrid and Butterfly classes to separate them from the Standup goalie.
  • Increased rebound control for the AI goalie class.
Players
  • Lowered hand-eye ratings for all classes and rebalanced the category to see more realistic deflections and bat-ins across the different player classes.
  • Lowered shooting attributes of Grinder, Power Forward and Enforcer Forward.
  • Lowered passing attribute for the Grinder.
  • Increased balance of the Two Way Forward and Hitting Sniper class.
  • Increased the ability for defensive builds to intercept passes but still kept the same variance in abilities relative to each of the classes.
  • Increased the minimum rating a player needs to get a saucer lift on a regular pass. Now Playmaker, Jumbo Playmaker and Puck Moving D will be the only players with the advantage.

Sounds like some goalie fixes and finally the fighting issue fixed!

Although most of the goalie stuff was under "user" so maybe those are not for AI franchise mode goalies except for the one that specifically says "AI goalie"?

Was hoping pucks going through the goalies pads and into the net would finally be squashed but maybe it's an engine issue or something.

My guess is a new roster will be available soon that will enable the new jerseys.

Curious about the goalie fixes. I traded in my Xbox copy because I was so frustrated with my A.I. goalie letting in easy goals, especially ones in which he was unable to slide from one side of the pipes to the other in time.

per EA forums.. roster update to go live today.. so when it does, download and apply as default and you should see the new pads/jerseys show up - even in franchise mode.

Dan,

I'm getting ready to play a game post patch - from a comment on the EA forums, goalies do seem like they have been improved. I'll post here as I've also been very frustrated with AI goalies and soft goals.

Do we need to restart a franchise to get new uniforms?

# 9 Jatt96 @ 01/19/17 02:24 PM
^ I don't think so, we haven't had to in the past.

Sucks that there's still no option to turn off retired jersey numbers in Franchise mode.

Nice to see the Pens arena updated to the new name in-game, but the overlay at the beginning of the game still says CONSOL Energy Center.

Anyone feel like skating momentum and acceleration from LS input is drastically reduced?

Whereas pre-patch it seemed like skating was a constant battle and human and AI controlled players were constantly out of control, it seems like things are a lot more in control. It does feel slower, and movements seem a lot "smaller."

Goalie is pretty frustrating right now, feels like your goalie can't stop a beach ball. Will need more time to get used to it though. Also-- CCM blocker definitely isn't fixed. They fixed the picture of the blocker in the selection menu to be upright, but not the actual blocker.

No... download the roster that was released today and make it your active roster. Then go into franchise and they will be there.

Played two games.. AI goalies are still a mess imho.

Goals just inside the blue line where the goalie is already in a butterfly and tries to scoot to block the puck are still there. To me, not much has changed, they need more speed from left to right.

I don't notice much, if any differences with the patch/tuner.

Tuned down puck carrier’s reaction speed to reacquire a puck after losing it.

That my favorite part of this update. I was so tired of hitting players and they end up with the puck again smh. Drove me crazy.

Just played a game. Barnburner, I won 3-2 on a late 3rd period goal by Marchand.

Now the reason I say that is that when Marchand grabbed the puck he took off like a rocket right at the net. I almost didn't have time to shoot because I wasn't expecting him to take off like that.

It didn't look unrealistic but it was certainly unexpected. I had seen it a few other times but this one really stood out. Any one else seeing acceleration on puck pickups?

Gameplay was good, certainly liked that players couldn't just keep getting the puck after losing it. I found the ai still had an advantage to just take the puck when they wanted it.

I did also find that entering the zone was very tough. The ai was holding the blue line pretty well and crushing my brains if I tried to carry in. But after dumping it a few times then it was as if their ai learning wouldn't let them commit to just wrecking me. Was a very welcome change.

I have to say I thought it was me. But after reading your post. I remember it happening with 2 different times. Once with Matta and another with Henrqich. But both times there was open ice in front of them for the break away.

The goal wasn't letting in a bunch of cross creases as usually. I enjoyed the 3 games I played last night.

After the patch, I've noticed that free pucks after poke checks are a lot more chaotic and...scrambly, and usually seem to go where you would expect them based on the direction of the poke, though sometimes the puck just flies off the stick at speeds I wouldn't deem realistic. All told, I can accept the trade-off, I'd prefer that to getting scored on after nailing 3 or 4 perfect poke checks that just seem to float back to my opponents stick each time.

EASHL:
Played a game as goalie.

Was playing hot as hell for the first two periods, clean first and no goals where I was planted, set and had the puck just go under my armpit just because. If I was in position, I was rewarded. Even made a few awesome butterfly slide saves.

Is it just me or has the butterfly slide delay (the one that is never present when the play is at the other end of the rink) been greatly reduced.

I feel a lot more like my goalie goes where I want him to, when I want him to.

I lost the game in OT, but when I was beat, I was beat, flat out.

Online VS:
This one really pissed me off actually
I think it was just "one of those games" opponents goalie was standing on his head. Mine let in 3 snipes and one cross-crease (that one was a nice goal mind you) in 8 shots.

In the end, I outshot 35-22 and lost 4-0.
