Don't have much hope. FIFA 17 is an awful game, But metacritic scores are decent and they make so much money from FUT they have little motive to change. The Journey isn't very deep and there is almost nothing new for content aside from it.

What you are asking for is a soccer game built on NBA 2k's engine. Which would be amazing. I agree with you on all points the most disappointing thing about this game and really all EA sports games is they have all the licenses and they put all the details in the game but the people. They are like the NFL now all fluff without any fun or personality

Nice article, KG. Enjoyed it. Agree with all of it. FIFA 17 is still my game of choice though.

Great article - couldn't agree more. FIFA can be a fun time in a brainless sort of way, especially when playing a friend. But man, this game's single player experience is an insult to the intelligence, and to what we should have in 2016 for quality gameplay.

Sticking with PES. With option files on PS4, licensing isn't really much of an issue, and the gameplay is so much more realistic.

Need options for Connected Franchise Mode Online. That would make a much deeper experience.

I agree completely about the team individuality, although I feel like perhaps PES gets a little too much credit in this area. The teams at least play different styles, but they aren't always accurate to their real life counterparts, and the best players in the world are just far too easy to take the ball from, even on Superstar difficulty.

It would be wonderful if these games would offer an option to apply a roster update without changing any tactics you may have edited. I really wouldn't mind putting some time in updating this sort of thing, but if it's going to be wiped every time the game updates, what's the point?

Agree with most of this. FIFA's basic AI (mapped to the Dpad on PS4) offer very limited differences. The changes to the AI stratgegy seem to be limited to the use of these 4 strategy changes (possession, counter attack etc...) in addition to the attacking and defensive levels. To be fair teams do use these differently...i.e. Liverpool and Spurs press and attack more often than say West Brom BUT those changes are not very dramatic and FIFA's Ai seems to be more reactive to what the user does. So if you play without changing your strategies very often the CPU AI generally is static as well. If on the other hand you really vary your DPad strategies then the game offers more variety.
Where PES seems to differ is that the CPU AI is more proactive...meaning it doesn't wait to react to you it forces you to react, which generally leads to the varied gameplay. BUT my issue wiht that is that in the PES Master League the changes are way over the top. I mean player mentality will change for seemingly no reason and the Team Spirit is too easy to rig...just never change your tatics and your squad spirit grows no matter wins or losses. Yes this leads to a lot of variety but not very realistic.
Somewhere there has to be a happy medium...oh to dream!

Not only have I not played a single game of FIFA 17 (even the demo) I haven't missed it one little bit.

So long as EA continues to glibly ignore folks like myself who want to play a manager/career mode I won't give them a penny of my money. Good riddance to bad rubbish made by lazy devs who only care about bilking little kids out FUT money.
