NBA 2K17 News Post

It's hard to believe that 13 NBA franchises have never won a NBA title. The Cleveland Cavaliers (who hadn't won an NBA Championship before 2016) were the most recent to be crossed off the list of teams plagued with a drought of titles. But are there any other teams that seem to be on the cusp of breaking through?

A common theme in recent years has been surrounding a superstar or two with excellent role players. Examples of this can be found in the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, the 2015 Golden State Warriors, the 2012 and 2013 Miami Heat. The 2011 Dallas Mavericks and 2014 San Antonio Spurs were slightly different, but still had at least one all-time great to go with a host of other Hall of Fame or all-star level players.

Looking at this formula and matching it with the 13 NBA teams that haven't won a championship (a list of which can be found below), there are only three teams that fit: the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Clippers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Which of these three has the best future and the best shot to cross themselves off the list?

I'd put the Raptors ahead of the Pelicans.

Is this question looking strictly at 2K? If so, it's not even close...

The Wolves have one of the sickest rosters in the game, judged by talent and youth. And if you start MyGM in the offseason you can make them even better -- trade Rubio, draft whoever you want, trade for more picks, etc. Plus your players get an offseason of progression and camps.

Unfortunately, the Pelicans SUUUUUUUCK. Davis isn't long for that place.

True. Mudiay, Jokic, Murray, some young 2's. Great core.

Also love the Suns with Booker, Bledsoe, Warren, Len, and draft picks to trade up. I always trade Knight and Chandler and draft Bender (want the real pic on the rosters! plus he's money on pick and pop).

I actually had to google, beleaguered, and see what the definition meant: past tense. In reference to a once historic franchise that has fallen away from its once glory days, I would say the obvious are: Lakers, Pistons, Bulls, Celtics, 76ers, and Knicks. I love taking an NBA team and retooling them, but, when I thought about a franchise that needs a TOTAL rebuild, the Miami Heat came across my mind. They have lost Lebron, Dwayne Suade, and Bosh all in a 3 year span. What a whirlwind for Heat fans! Whiteside is an excellent centerpiece to build around as he offers great athletism in the paint. What are y'alls thoughts about this team selection?

In my MyLeague the 76ers always wind up legit perinneal title contenders within 2 seasons. This is with then as a wholly cpu controlled team. Even when I meddle and trade Okafor and Noel then stool wound up in the conference semifinals by 2019. The Wolves SHOULD be better but they're not lol not by a long shot.

Jinntu's comment is pretty spot on. In my current 9-year expansion franchise, the 76ers made the finals twice and won once. What was a little surprising was that the Pacers also took the finals once and have been there twice. Orlando made it as well in year 5 which was very intriguing and pushed a game 7 against GSW (who have won 3 times). KAT has won an MVP award and has been basically unstoppable, but they can't make it too far in the playoffs.

IMO the 76ers, Twolves, and the Raptors are the most likely teams. Raptors have a great young core of Lowry, Derozan, and JV with lots of pretty solid depth. But yeah, the 76ers aren't fair...they signed all of their top 6 including Okafor, Noel, and Embiid and have been luxury taxed like 5 years in a row and losing a crapton of money.

Honestly, the 76ers are the only team that the computer has consistently managed to make better than i can, though to be fair, that may be because of injury. My current team in like 2020 or so is:
Poor man's cp3, generally similar except weak defense
Rodney Hood
Ben Simmons
Poor man's Bird, Great shooter, rebounder and passer, good post more of a 3 than 4, bad athlete and defender
Embiid
Trey Burke
Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot
Covington
Richaun Holmes
Some random center
and then some scrubs

And every year we get a top three pick and lose in the first two rounds

I'm trying to figure out why the Raptors aren't on the list period...

The Thunder have the best player out of any of those teams... I got 1. Clippers 2. Thunder 3. Raptors for now... for the future I like 1. T'wolves 2. Nuggets 3. Pacers

Damn, it's hard to believe the Pacers haven't ever won a title

To me I would list Clippers No. 1 idk about the rest. But the Clippers have been a tough West conference for years and have consistently made it to the playoffs the last three years under Doc Rivers but can't get over that hump. I'm hoping they will be able to win one with the players they have now.

If the Thunder are on this list, Kings should be too. Last championship was Rochester Royals in 1949

You left off Young Teams with bright future, Charlotte Hornets. (They have never even made it to Eastern Conf Finals)
