NBA 2K17 News Post

Sony announced today on the PlayStation Blog that they are partnering with the ESL to launch a new tournaments feature on the PS4.

The first major tournament being held will be played on NBA 2K17.

Quote:
"We’re excited to announce that PlayStation is partnering with ESL to introduce Tournaments, a new PS4 feature that will allow players to participate in Tournaments with games that gamers want to play.

We’re kicking off the first Major tournament with NBA 2K17, to celebrate the beginning of the NBA season. The Major Tournament runs from October 27 to November 26, with Major Cup rounds occurring every Saturday. Top 3 winners of the NBA 2K17 Major Tournament will receive a prize pack that includes items such as a DualShock 4 and PlayStation gear."

The tournaments feature will initially be for 1 on 1 gaming, but Sony is expecting to expand that into the future.

E-Sports continues to gain steam, and it looks like with one major console maker fully on board it's likely you'll see sports games continue to gravitate that direction with regards to the modes they offer as well.

Will you be playing in the NBA 2K17 tournament on PS4 later this month?

I'm sure the gameplay in this will be 100 percent sim and be an accurate portrayal of the NBA.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, didn't think so.
This is as silly a comment as I've seen. A licensed NBA product doesn't have to identically simulate everything within the NBA. In this case in particular, all the game needs to do is provide the platform for fair competition. Fair meaning all the tools available to one player is also available to the other to compete with.

This is nice. Finally something for 1 v 1 competitions

I trust ESL with this... Sony? Not so much. This has technical failure written all over it lol

The event listing says it's on Pro difficulty. Surely that is just an error and they aren't going to put a "major" tournament on this scrub setting that gimps your AI defense and allows contested shots to go in at an absurd rate.

Also "all NBA teams allowed" basically translates to "only Warriors & Cavs allowed."

Yeah, I saw that and had a chuckle.

Any competitive 2K Tournament needs to be on at least All-Star/Superstar difficulty, Pro is just a shooting chuck-fest.

They'd have to set it up similar to PNO where they have different tiered teams and add in classic team too IMO.

Yeah that's gotta be an error. If not, someone needs to let them know ASAP lol. Superstar or HOF only.

[emoji848] I probably won't sign up if that is the case. Hoping it is an error. Superstar difficulty and I'll be signing up for sure.

Man do I hope that it is on Pro. A game looking bad during E-Sports seems to be a prime motivator to get things fixed these days.

You're welcome!
NBA Jam was a licensed nba game with player likenesses as well. The problem with esport has nothing to do with realism, only the game exploits. Exploits that can be governed by the 3rd party leagues/tournaments like every other game.

Let us know when you plan and execute your tournaments.
