Madden NFL 17 News Post

It seems EA may have seriously messed up a MUT set which was supposed to allow you to trade in five elites at 85-86 for an 87 elite.

Instead, it turns out EA made a programming error which allowed users to enter any five players into the set which allowed players to trade in players for 87 elites for super cheap prices -- which ended up crashing their value this evening.

The auction house has been down all evening now with no communication from EA on what is going on.

Some players are reporting that they received bans for using the set improperly but there's no word on if those were just temporary bans or not.

Currently there is no timeline on when the auction house will be put back up, what will happen to the cards players obtained, and what will be done about the bans some were reporting having received.

We'll be updating this piece as new info emerges.

EA Posted an update:

" Our thanks for sticking with us during the Auction House outage last evening. Please accept 10 thousand coins for the inconvenience.

We experienced an error with one of our sets within Ultimate Team that was exploited in violation of Terms of Service. In the interest of fair play we have removed exploited coins and players."

Funny, people banned for taking advantage of an error that was someone else's fault...Still reminds me of a casino, where you can be banned from the casino if you count cards....I think people, according to YouTube videos, are tired of spending so much real money and not getting any good cards.

I have no sympathy for EA in this matter, but I do feel bad for anyone who gets banned...I feel even worse for people who are spending bunches of real money for cards that are unrealistically difficult to achieve at a reasonable price to the user, so they can enjoy the MUT mode of Madden.

And I do like to play the challenges in MUT, they are short and sweet, with varying difficulty, and also, I like collecting the cards of players I like and building my team, but it is just not feasible without spending a good deal of real money, and/or an amazing amount of time....This isn't World of Warcraft, and it shouldn't be, though it would be one heck of a cool game if it had everything WoW has in regards to transferring the atmosphere and freedom to Football...I could see Madden franchise having a true off season, offices for coaching staff; going house hunting in your new city; going car shopping, drawing up plays and interviews, and socializing in game with other users like you can in Wow, etc etc...But I digress...

People just need to stop playing this mode and stop feeding the beast.

EA could easily implement a completely VC (free by playing game) model

People need to stop all games companies and their greed for this sort of mode

I play this game religiously this year, have not spent a single cent on packs, and have a 86 ovr including LTD use cards and a 83 ovr w/o the LTD use cards. There's enough content, games, reward packs, etc. to have fun with the mode so to say people just need to stop playing is assuming that everyone that plays "pays" for the game and that's not entirely true.

The new October Gauntlet so far just from the rush challenges rewards me with an Elite Drew Brees and Clay Matthews along with tons of coins.

They had a card pack error also in UFC 2 a few months back that gave top packs for almost nothing. This is not EA's first mistake in this department.

But are you competing online in a competitive manner, or are you just playing the solo challenges, with maybe a casual online gaming mentality?

Myself, I like playing the solo challenges, and I can see where EA/Tib got the idea for the "Play the Moment" in Franchise, because that is what the solo challenges are...

What I dislike like, is the cost of player cards for the Competitive crowd, and that cost trickles down to the casual user...For example, I like collecting the crads for players I like in the NFL, and the legends are cool, like Ray Nitschke...I am currently using the 79 OVR Derek Carr card because I like that QB...I would like the 85 Derek Carr card, but because it is a limited release card, it costs ~ 250,000 coins...Now someone will buy that card because of its rarity, but I can't afford those cards; yet I can afford the Aaaron Rodgers 89 OVR card at about 80k coins, and Rodgers' ratings are the best QB ratings in MUT so far, if you disregard the popular scrambling QB's like a Tyrod Taylor; which goes onto another issue I have with Madden, and that is, no injuries to QB's when they get hit, so you can run 4 Verts and just scramble all day with no risk of injury...Just carry 1 QB on your roster just to be even safer.

So a user can be banned for something EA screwed up on? This isn't deliberate, going out of the way cheating, a la "aiming bots" in shooting games. This is following the directions EA gave and then being told, "we gave the wrong directions, it's your fault for following them."
