NBA 2K17 News Post

As I spend more and more time with NBA 2K17 and the polish wears off, I settle into a routine with the game -- many of you likely do the same. 2K offers so many different modes that it would be impossible to dedicate yourself full-time to each of them. We all have our favorite modes, and we usually have one particular mode where we spend most of our time.

Technically, my most-played mode would be quick game because I spend the most time playing friends in person one-on-one. We play 12-minute quarters to simulate as realistic a basketball game as possible. It’s really competitive and very addictive. But quick game is just that, a game. If I had to single out a specific game mode, I gotta go, once again, with MyLeague.

Omitting MyGM was intentional, as I find that side of the franchise experience a tad unrealistic. If judging it as an RPG take on franchise mode, it's fine. But this year, MyLeague offers more than ever before, including a much more realistic front office experience. Some frustrations remain, which I will get to in a bit, but overall, MyLeague remains my favorite mode because it has one significant upgrade and several promising tweaks that give me hope for the future of this mode.

They brought everything but Points of emphasis which results in every team playing exactly alike...

Disagree with this. You have to edit Individual player tendencies. They are even more important since they removed POE.

I can't say I disagree with the premise of the article being "I'm enjoying MyLeague" but there's a whole host of issues that need to be pointed out. The three most pressing at the moment being:

1. The Open 3pt ratings of the league skyrocking five seasons in. Myself and others are attempting to combat this with in-season training sliders and we're getting promising results, but this is an out-of-the-box issue that needs to be looked at it by the devs. Our work so far can be found here, we're close to a good base set I feel.

2.
CPU roster logic is still mightily skewed, though this could be the result of in-season training effects skewing the ratings across the league. The issues could be related, but there's at least one thread about it already here where some of us have documented what we've seen.

3.
Then there's the defensive settings issue (thread here), which is difficult for MyLeague players to address depending on how they play. We have Sam Pham to thank for finding settings that help correct (most) of the problems, but there's no way to default the settings, which means for MyLeague players who play many games in a season (or control multiple teams and play games as multiple teams) the process of setting the settings at the beginning of every game becomes super-tedious. This needs to be patched in some way.

Overall, I agree with the premise -- but this article doesn't give the full view. Yes, MyLeague is better in many respects than last year, but there are a number of fundamental issues that we, as users, can only affect so much, and those issues need to be singled out. We need to bring attention to the problems we're seeing (in a constructive way -- no "2K SUCKZ OH MY GODS" stuff, we're better than that) and not ignore them. Otherwise, they may never be addressed.

Is possible to remove some teams in MY LEAGUE? For example, play with 16 teams instead of 30? I would like to recreate the NBA in the 70`s and 80`s.

Nope. MyLeague must have a minimum of 30 teams in it. You can add expansion teams and contract them at will, but only them.

Can you expand more on how the keeper system works? Haven't started a MyGM or MyLeague yet but I was confused by how it works. I'd prefer just to have a regular draft/free agency. Is it much different from that?

And you can edit your defensive gameplan prior to playing. Its under coach gameplan. You just have to do it team by team which i guess is still a tad bit tedious but once you set it for a certain opponent it will stick. Just putting it out there

Couldn't agree more. I find myself making trades just to balance out the rosters because teams like the sixers just seem to keep compiling centers.

Check out my new slider set in the slider sub forum. It balances out the league talent and seems to help the CPU do better with roster balance, probably because the talent is more even. I have data in the post because I hate unbalanced rosters, so I tracked it.

Imagine how myleague and mygm will be next if they add the D-League and the option to "draft and stash" foreign players with what it already has.

He "disagrees" lol

Can't edit tendencies because the rosters don't get the jersey updates like 2K said they would....

And more importantly. I don't FEEL like editing tendencies because last year I didn't have too.

Sorry for the condescending tone. Im just trying to drive home the point that a feature was removed for utterly no reason which leads to an astronomical amount of work just to replicate the effect that that feature produced....

I think the improvement of 17 far outweigh NBA2k16, so I would go with 17. 16 is still a good game, so if your wanting to save money then I dont think you would be disappointed with 16, but 17 is better overall.

Ok so this sounds like a real concern to me because I only play off-line, MyGM 90% of the time. Will this happen in MyGM also, where five years in and we have a game full of Ray Allens?

Brandon - I am really glad you made this post because you touched on two modes near and dear to my heart: 1) Quick/Custom Game and 2) MyLeague. Like you and many others, I spend a good amount of time playing quick/custom games with my friends on HOF with 12 minute quarters.

This year, more than any previous year I believe 2k nailed the simulation aspect. However, the quick/custom game mode (when played online) is still a watered down version of the same mode, when played in person, and it has been since 2k11. Why? Because we don't get highlight replays online (which we use to). They also elimated player of the game highlights, end of game individual highlights, and halftime show. Even worse, they eliminated Directors cut highlights completely.

Are we really in such a small minority that these features (that were once in the game (and worked fairly well)) are completely getting overlooked? Is MyPark really that important? I'm not asking 2k to put all hands on deck to figure this out. I'm just asking that they carry over a feature that is readily available for in-person play to be carried over online. I'm asking for a feature that was available in previous games to be made available once more.

Same goes for MyLeague Online. We get full presentations when we go up against the AI. However, we get the water downed version when we go up against another live individual. This REALLY annoys me because 2k is better than this. I can't honestly believe others who enjoy both of these modes (even wk employees) don't feel the same way. In all honesty, WTF?

Thoughts anyone?
Repituar

P.S. Can we get someone from 2k to comment on this topic and shed some light?
