NBA 2K17 News Post

As I dive into NBA 2K17, I'm reminded once again about how deep the modes in the game are. Right now, look for my full review of NBA 2K17 sometime around Tuesday.

For now, if you are unsure about whether you are jumping in or not, here's a look at a few quick impressions after a few games:
  • The gameplay and presentation still continue to be just so smooth. Its not like that wasn't expected but it does need to be stated for the record. There's a lot more to explore on the court but I'm definitely hooked to the on-court gameplay.
  • Look-wise, the game looks better with more varied body types as one addition. The other tweaks are adding nice touches as well. Overall the game looks a hair better than last year.
  • There are still instances where you get stuck in animations -- I had one instance at the end of a game I drove the lane and tried to fire up a quick shot at the buzzer and instead my player went into a lengthy drive-layup animation which resulted in time expiring before the shot went up. That wasn't particularly good considering I was in a position to win the game.
  • Commentary seems solid enough still. I haven't played enough to form a good judgement on it but I don't see any reason after a few more games I won't be coming away with a positive vibe.
  • The only mode I've dove into enough to write anything on has been MyPLAYER. The story and background are a fun setup but the mode has some serious issues which I think will leave me thinking its a negative this year. I'll need to play a bit more but it just feels the mode goes out of its way to mire you in tedium.
  • I played a game of 1-on-1 in MyPLAYER and it felt just so right. To me its impressive the game can play a good brand of basketball be it 5-on-5, 3-on-3, or 1-on-1. That means its getting a few things right with gameplay.
Final Thoughts

NBA 2K17 is looking like a winner on the court at least. The game right now seems to have done a lot more right than wrong, but we still have a lot of time until the final review is published. For now, I'm definitely optimistic about NBA 2K17's prospects.

I agree. It's my biggest pet peeve about the game. It drives me crazy every time I see it too. 2K just can't seem to nail foot planting for whatever reason. It really sticks out because the game is so smooth otherwise. It's really holding the game back & I hope they can at least clean it up in a patch.

I'll definitely be skipping this year, after watching the live streams and other videos, just looks like the same o same o, fanboys of this franchise won't trick me this time. Once I found out they literally done nothing to fix create a player and still refuse to add tattoos, that was it for me. I'll be back next year.

Why won't they add tattoos to create a player?? This is a huge deal for me and they just won't add it back. Maybe they can patch that in!

I can't trust anything he says about the game now.

A. The bodytypes are the same as last year.
B. They don't look better. If anything they look worse.
C. Look-wise, the game doesn't look any better. The similarity to last year is one of my main gripes

You'd be making a mistake. It looks the same but the gameplay is legitimately amazing. It's something you can only notice once you play it for a few hours. Everything is balanced really well

I just googled it and found the thread. I'm glad there is more people out there discussing this topic.
Instead on focusing (by that I mean financially investing...) on stupid MyCareer mode, they should acknowledge the fact that body types still sucks 3 years after the beginning of Next Gen !
Especially since we're talking about a damn sports game... Sports = Atheletes = Body for Christ's sake!

Yeah I know dude... He's part of a list of beefy guys looking awful in the game.
It's simple 2k marketing bragged about how amazing Ingram looks with his skinny arms and stuff... Well, they sure did not mention that half the league got the same treatment for some crazy reason.

Wow...serious? It's a good game and a good franchise.

I was happy with NBA 2K16 especially with the relocation feature. But once I found out they were going to have league expansion, I decided to go ahead and get the legend edition and wasn't disappointed.

Personally, the skin tones and overall lighting stand out to me immediately...

I've only been playing exhibition games to get a feel for the game. Started at all-pro difficulty and now I'm on superstar. My first game on superstar I lost in OT by two points. It felt fair though so I don't mind losing as long as I don't feel the cpu cheated.

My only complaint so far is the clipping is still really really bad in this game. I know all games have clipping but when it can affect the gameplay for example, if a defenders arm clips through the ball, then that's an issue because if the physics worked properly, then the ball should have been tipped. But other than that, I think this year I'll dive deep into MyLeague offline.

I'm enjoying this game right now. I like how effective ACE is, when the CPU go on runs it feels natural. A few menu gripes I have though. When checking team stats within a game it seems you can't see the points scored for a individual quarter. When editing attributes in edit player you can't see the overall rating go up or down. Lastly, the adjustments during timeouts don't stay.

It's taken me a minute to get used to the new art direction but I've warmed up to it.

The CPU doesn't miss wide open shots at all almost , I gotta play better defense

The game overall is very good, the game play has improved.
- i loved the league expansion, I didn't play it yet, but I surfed it & liked the options given.
- My career, I hate the story lines they give every year, as it is never related to me, my career mode should be the most dynamic & customised than any other modes. We are now stuck with a story line that u are not related to. You can bare some of this if you are at least drafted by your favourite team, but it is never the case. Then you are stock with the animations that is so stupid, every time you have to do an activity in the day you have to watch your player entering & leaving mycourt, then you get stuck with animations that you are not in control, I was stuck in a shooting drill from across the court simply by accepting the invitation when I was shooting across the on the other basket.
They are destroying the mode by the story line, where I belive it has to be based on challenges then a story line,to enter the draft you should do so & so, to be drafted by your favourite team you should get so & so in a drill test or avarage a number of points, ...... I don't know, I am losing interest in this mode.
- there is improvement in animations but the body types are horrible looking, plus I am not sure if any one noticed that the ripped option doesn't work anymore. Shoes are much improved.

Please 2k, give us my career to be really mine & not Spike lee's or MBJ'so
Unfortunately I am switching to my league

Is anyone else having major issues with AI defense in transition or even after a score? The opposing PG stands near the sideline as I'm bringing the ball up the court as if the basket were in the corner. In transition I've seen multiple instances of defenders being in horrible position (as with the previous example), but still in a crouch and reacting to their assignment. Also having issues with defenders not closing out on shooters, on a pindown/zipper type action for instance my defender will fight through the screen and either just stand there or get into a crouch and close out extremely slowly as his man runs out to the perimeter.

The offense in the game right now is SO OVERPOWERING! There are a lot of times where I play good defense and the CPU still nails the shot. I won't gripe about this too much because I haven't figured out defense yet. will take some time to master this. Too many any ones tho. Most of these shooting fouls become 3pt plays the way guys play D. Maybe need to tone that down a little.

FIX THE CROWD RESPONSE!!!!! I WENT ON A 10-2 run and the crowd was silent. the other team called a timeout and the crowd was silent. THAT'S NOT BASKETBALL IN THE NBA!
