Not excusing the lack of different bodies types, but it is done a lot in gaming. It would take an extreme amount of time to rig and animate tons of different bodies types, it is much easier to have a consistent body type and make small changes such as the head and scale of the model. It's just a matter of time and priorities for the art team on what is more important to implement. A lot of fans notice a difference in a players face, tattoos, texturing, and animating before noticing body types. Hopefully they have time to address it next year.

Yeah the amount of body types may jump from 7 to 30 in one dev cycle for all we know. Much like Czar's freelances (from 2K15 to 2K16).

I ain't that fussed to be honest. Just wish the 7 body types were all BETTER. Haha.

I used to downplay the lack of bodytypes/importace of bodytypes but 6/7 bodytypes for 400+ players including FA is inexcusable

Does anyone else feel like it would be a bit of a waste if the next 11 (or however many) pics that 2K release are all members of Team USA?

Because I can totally see that happening haha.

Not that fussed, just seems cheeky.

I'd love to get a look at a Westbrook or LeBron or something....

Maybe just a tad bigger on the game to real life but not super drastic tho still could use some work tho
Nice, two "myths" debunked in one.

He isn't as "big" as everyone is imagining and arm sleeves don't all go down to the wrist (which I don't want them to do, personally).

I had jumped off the "we need more body types" bandwagon last year after I thought they were adding more "unique" variations. I assume "scanning" the upper torso was for tattoos, scars, skin complexion and other imperfections.

Now that I think about though it isn't surprising that they stuck with the same basic amount. That is discouraging, annoying and I feel a bit misled.

No wonder it looked like Boris and Draymond had incorrect bodies to me.

They need to figure out how to increase the amount to at least 15 or 18, next year.

Legitimate question: Does anyone have any clue who is in charge of the art department for NBA 2K?

Lynell Jenks (hope I spell that brother's name correct) was moved over to WWE and I haven't heard about who replace for NBA.

Side-note: Google says there are only 3 types of human bodies; endomorph, mesomorph, ectomorph. So, in actuality 2K is above what they need. Good job art department!!! (End Sarcasm)

How funny/****ed up is it that they gave Durant a little high school boy body?!?!?!

I also hate how 2k don't bother with the head sizes for a bunch of players. Some can be a pea head or a damn bobble head.....

Since the body type issue has been beaten to death what do you guys think about the actual graphics? The pic in the post I quoted looks like a noticeable difference but I know sometimes these screenshots can be glossed up to look better. Any thoughtsuggestions?

Also, It's amazing how much attention one 2k17 screen shot receives on this site. There's been madden 17 gameplay videos releasing like crazy over the past few days and I don't think those videos combined have as many comments as this one article/image does. Is the 2k community really that much more prominent and vocal on this site?

I think its definitely a glossed up image. Similar to the promo shots they took of the players in 2k16.

I actually really like it. The body types don't appear to be changing drastically this year. Its just one of those videogame quirks. I can live with it. Still, I think it looks great. Can't wait to see and hear more.

Kinda on/off topic.... I wonder if 18 pages of thread will happen for every picture they release on Instagram.

I'm keen to see it from a broadcast cam - can't wait for that day.

This pic looks great (despite the issues most people seem to have with it - myself included), biggest thing I took from it is the nice lighting.

But this just means we've ascertained 2K looks great up close. Can't remember the last time we didn't think this.

But sure.....keep 'em coming.

Talking about this whole Body Scan thing.... there are only 7 body types in the game:

Bodytype #1 - This is the most common body type. It is used for Create a Player, your MyPlayer and usually players who don't get face scans done.
Bodytype #2 - This is the skinny muscular body type. It's used by players like Dwyane Wade, DeMarcus Cousins, Kemba Walker, Derrick Favors etc.
Bodytype #3 - This is the skinny body type. It's used by players like Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins, Kevin Durant (2K16) etc.
Bodytype #4 - This is the muscular body type. It's used by players like LeBron James, Isaiah Thomas, Dwight Howard, Nene, David West etc.
Bodytype #5 - This is the awkward fat body type. It's used by players like Dirk Nowitzki, D'Angelo Russell, Andre Drummond, Jonas Valanciunas etc.
Bodytype #6 - This is the fat body type. It's used by players like Draymond Green, Glen Davis, Shaquille O'Neal, Al Jefferson, Zach Randolph
Bodytype #7 - This is the high school body type. It's going to be the body type that Kevin Durant is going to be using in NBA 2K17 and it looks ****ing stupid.

When they say body scans they don't mean they actually scan the size of the arm/legs etc.
All they do is scan the wingspan, the shoulder height, and the body length.*

To prove my point watch what happens when I swap out a player with the same body type and give them the same height, wingspan, shoulder height and the same body length as the previous player in this GIF.

Wow GREAT post! Here I thought 2K actually went and scanned every player's actual body type, and you're telling me there's only 7 in the game?

This is a problem I have with videogames in general and sports games specifically. It's very easy to make a game look gorgeous from a screen shot with or without touching up the image, especially in a close up, zoomed in screenshot.

That's not to say the game will look bad or worse than whats portrayed in the image but you can't always judged graphics accurately from these close up shots.

The real judgement comes from seeing the game in motion from a gameplay camera. Still images can look clean and great but the real test is how the game looks in motion. Animations can make or break how realistic a game looks and typically things like jaggies and clipping issues are more prevalent in motion than in a specifically chosen screen shot

Even with 7 body types they could edit certain features on those bodies to make them more like the true NBA players.

NBA Live is doing the same thing.. so is Fifa.. so is Madden..

At what point would they decide to sit down and go to work on overhauling these 7 body types? Not the whole body but trim the unnecessary bulk.
