Madden NFL 17 News Post

"Time for a rebuild!" That's a phrase that gets a Madden gamer more excited than perhaps any, yet is a phrase that is wholly unoriginal at this point.

The word "rebuild" or "re-build" turns up 17 times through the first 11 pages of the Madden 17 Franchise thread. When I searched for the word "established," not a single match.

Perhaps it's our love obsession with the NFL Draft, the next big thing or just proving to the world we can easily outwit the guy with the masters in business/sports management running the team in real life who's competing against real-life adversaries as opposed to Madden's (cough) team-management AI.

These sort of threads all start the exact same way, weaving the same boring story told over and over again: "I traded up and drafted my franchise QB!" In Madden, is that even a challenge? Should we be that impressed?

But here we are in madden 17 on high powered gamming systems and we are still having to manually control everything.

Ea at some point should try to alleviate the need of this and fix the AI issues. It seems like every year we have to baby sit the AI just to get a realistic franchise mode in terms of cpu ai decision making.
I can't disagree with this point at all. I am in year 5 of running a 32 team CFM on 16 and although it has been awesome, it's also time consuming. Checking depth charts and injury management is also part of the overall micro management duties. The AI never IR's players and is awful at getting free agent replacements off the wire. This season we will have practice squads so I am hopeful they will promote guys off that squad when injuries occur. Also with team able to carry 10 practice squad players we should see a much thinner free agent pool and make it tougher to acquire talent on the fly. Of course you can sign guys away from teams off their practice squads. So the depth has potential to be even better in roster management.

In season resigns also. House rules with a spread sheet using the random number method etc etc. It is somewhat work. I really would love to be able to just play with one team and let the AI handle everything else. I have been doing this on MLB The Show 16 and even if though it's not perfect....it is by far much improved from years past and I feel comfortable just playing my team.

I am pretty sure I will be running a 32 team CFM yet again. I will be curious to see impressions of those that sim the heck out of the game at launch to test everything. I would be pleasantly surprised if the AI actually is much improved and we don't have to babysit the AI and play a true solo CFM controlling only one team.

As far as rebuilds......I have always taken the Dolphins (who are a semi rebuild this season IMO as they have multiple holes) but I am going with a different team this season. It does not matter to me if it is a perceived contender or a fringe playoff team. I don't have to have a rebuild team.

Another alternative to a complete rebuild is taking the team with the worst cap situation. Keeping the good players that you have should be a challenge

I 100% agree with this, but since it doesn't seem like Madden has made significant tweaks to the CPU's decision making this year, it's one alternative. This way you can make sure teams like the Bucs and Titans don't spend their 1st round pick on a QB, and it makes the draft a challenge if you're unbiased because you'll give some of the late round gems to other teams as well as the early round studs who are projected to go later than their talent indicates. (Although scouting will be useless to us who want to roll with real-life prospects in Madden 17.)

But yeah, Madden really needs to fix the CPU AI because that's the main reason why anyone can turn the Browns into a Super Bowl team in 3-4 years.

To offer another challenge I thought of, one could be like the Packers and strictly build through the draft. Rarely picking up free agents and trading forces you to hit on your draft picks, and while drafting is very easy in 16 you'll have to hope the guys you pick develop into superstars even if they are studs coming out of the draft.

San Diego would be another hot garbage, dumpster fire team to build or rebuild.

Also, it gets rid of Madden's franchise AI's dumb decisions, making it a lot harder to build a super-team. I've been doing this since Madden 12, and while Madden's franchise still does have a ways to go, you can really have loads fun doing this.
I would love to do something like this but I don't have nearly the time for that. Between work, family and going back to school for my doctorate I'll be lucky to get 2 hours a week in. But that does sound like a great time.

Colts are perfect for a rebuild, that one piece Ty Hilton is one of the best young WR's in the game, he just needs a good QB instead of Andrew "I threw another INT" Luck.

As well written as the article is, Madden is a "one and done" type of game, and has been for a decade sadly. I guess we will see this year.

Lets not forget Tennessee they are on my radar

Also i draft qbs in the second to third round mostly when i rebuild it will be fun running with a team with a losing record this year in the past it was Carolina before Cam Newton blossomed.

I found it way more enjoyable rebuilding college teams in NCAA, I would pick two teams each year and build powerhouses out of them within a couple seasons. We had 120 different programs to chose from not to mention those great college playbooks that you customize. How I miss that game...

# 34 frankrizzo380 @ 08/09/16 11:55 PM
Ha, i usually pick the saints each year, turn them into heavyweights in two offseasons, not this year, u cannot pay me to take the saints and rebuild them, prayers go out to whoever tries.
I will be investing my time in rebuilding my niners in my cfm instead. I also have the bolts in another cfm that i will attempt to rebuild, wish me luck!!!

I thought this article would be about rising above the rebuilding of CFM which is popular on here at the moment. Ha :P

To the guy above, think to yourself, do I really want to go through Year 1 again? I start 2 CFMs per Madden, one with the Week1 Rosters so all injuries are up to date and a second one with the final roster and script the year to match the W/L for all teams in the real NFL. Running more than 1 CFM at once would be tiring for me. Go with your gut.

# 36 4thQtrStre5S @ 03/10/17 05:41 PM
Since EA/Tiburon can't or won't change how CFM draft works, I guess it took an NFL team to adhere to the Madden system of acquiring draft picks, playing the draft..I am gonna just say I am building my team through the draft like the Browns are doing for 2017 & 2018.. Whew, that was easy...

OR

3. Start a new CFM with a bad team or rebuild team and do a best available pick draft with no scouting players and only bidding on the best FA of preseason of the next year. (Packers theory of drafting players)

HELP!
I don't decide what to do!

Thanks,

This entire article is about not doing a "rebuild" as those are predictable and really not that hard when you only have one direction to go.

Try picking a middle of the road team, and then decide on the exact path to take later during the CFM.

Rebuilds are overrated--take on a new challenge!

# 38 ggsimmonds @ 08/23/17 06:49 AM
I always play as the Ravens no matter what, but the funnest and most difficult seasons I have had have typically been when they've been a middle of the road team.

I'll probably end up getting M18, and a good part of the reason is the current makeup of the team. I think this year should provide a fun experience, though it may depend on Flacco's Madden contract.
