NBA 2K17 News Post

Derrick Rose is going to be a New York Knick for the 2016-17 NBA Season.

In a blockbuster pre-draft trade, the Knicks acquired Derrick Rose and Justin Holiday from the Bulls while sending Robin Lopez, Jose Calderon, and Jerian Grant to Chicago.

The Knicks also acquired a 2017 second round pick from Chicago.

Quote:
A source close to Rose said the Chicago native was very emotional about leaving his hometown team, which drafted him No. 1 overall out of Memphis in 2008, because of all his great memories there but that he wanted the big stage of New York.

Once Rose got word the Bulls were looking to trade him, he hoped it would be to the Knicks.

"His first choice was New York," the source said. "He wants the spotlight."

Rose's trade is going to change how players approach the Knicks -- with a starting lineup which now will include Rose and Carmelo Anthony. That is, of course, assuming Rose can stay healthy. Rose did play in 66 games last season, but he's battled injuries much of the last four seasons. Rose averaged nearly 32 minutes per game in 2015-16 and scored 16.4 points per game with 4.7 assists per game.

Rose's ratings will likely be pretty solid in NBA 2K17 given his stats -- and combined that with Anthony and suddenly the Knicks look a little more like a team with a little better chance at the playoffs.

What do you think? Was this a good trade for New York? What about Chicago? Is this a trade which will benefit the Bulls as well? Are you more likely to give the Knicks a try in NBA 2K17 now?

Good trade for Chicago, Robin Lopez has a great contract and is by far the biggest asset in this deal.

Derrick Rose is an 80 Overall and makes 21 Million next year.

"Blockbuster" is a bit of a loose description.

Robin Lopez is also the best player in the trade and replaces both Gasol and Noah who were already going to move on in free agency.

Ironically enough Jose Calderon is probably a better fit next to Jimmy Butler at this point since he can actually shoot. Rose and Calderon are both net-negative defenders but only one of them knows his limitations and can accept a lesser role. For the the pomp and circumstance Rose fans thumped their chest about, he was healthy and the team missed the playoffs (while making the playoffs without him every other year).

It's going to be hilarious watching Rose give his best Marbury impression while Melo is calling for the ball and sulking up the court on defense.... and sad watching Porzingis rot away.

I can't wait for the Knicks to sign Dwight Howard and complete the Knickerbums squad of has-beens that will compete for the 8th seed.... as the dumbest stars in the league continue to scratch their heads wondering what LeBron does that they don't.

Pretty much. And yes, Rolo is the best player in the deal, if we're talking actual basketball, not 2k.

Since the Knicks don't have a first round pick, DROSE is better than any point guard who is available to be drafted tonight. This is a start to getting better talent to come to the Knicks. One more decent big and the Knicks are a playoff team. Well done Phil Jackson

I hate to see Rose go, considering he was FINALLY looking healthy after the ASG last year. That being said, they were in a jam with their front court, and while Lopez isn't my favorite NBA player by a long shot, he's very serviceable and can contribute on both ends.

At this point, I almost feel they have to move Jimmy G Buckets as well. I heard awhile back that the Celtics may have been offering Avery Bradley and the #3 for him, and at this point I'd take that in a heartbeat. You get Kris Dunn with the pick and suddenly you have a young, talented backcourt that can really play D. More importantly, you have Calderon back on the pine where he belongs. C'mon Ainge, throw me a frickin' bone here. I'm dying right now.

Rose is the best they could do at PG, so I can't knock it. And they gave up role players. Decent role players, but role players none the less.

Anthony, Porzingas and Rose is not a terrible big 3. Yes, Rose has had some injury issues, but he's only 27. And he's in a contract year. Worst case, he gets hurt and it's another failed experiment, no worse than how they would've done with the previous roster. Best case, he stays healthy and balls out for a new contract.

I give the Knocks a B.

Please, don't get Howard though. No doubt he's washed up and doesn't have the leadership skills or attitude to contribute in that area either. Too much money for a good rebounding 4th scorer that nobody seems to like. Nothing positive could come of that.

As a Knick fan I hope they do not go after Howard. He is a headcase, malcontent, crybaby. He's a glorified role player...defense and rebounding. He has no offensive game whatsoever other than a dunk.

Great trade that gives us a starting pg this year without touching our 30 mil in cap space and gives us more freedom next summer when the free agency class is way better than this year.

At this point I don't care who we get....I miss the days when we had an intimidating big line up. Pat, Oak...Mase....we need a big again that can open up the outside...

I like it if I'm a Knicks fan. Even if Rose only plays 60 games next season it's still a valuable deal.

I like the deal for the Knicks. I don't think it puts them in an East title contention yet but it's a step towards it.

I think the Bulls/Knicks trade was win/win.

Knicks take a flyer for 1 year to see if Rose can improve and stay healthy. Rose is in a contract year so unlike last year I suspect Derrik will be attacking the paint more then just settling for 3s and stepback jumpers. He was very mediocre at 44th in PER for PGs, but he was in a new system (Hoiberg) and coming off preseason injury. Doubt he will ever be top 10 PG again, but he certainly can improve on last season.

Bulls replace Noah & Gasol with a reasonable $ contract in Lopez. Grant gets them younger and Calderon comes off the books next year so Bulls can start rebuilding. They may have also solved some team chemistry issues with Butler.
