Are big changes in store for the Golden State Warriors?

With a strong core in place, along with flexibility in the salary cap -- there are tough decisions to be made heading into the offseason, says Fox Sports.

Quote:
"But the Warriors are well positioned to contend for championships for years to come -- their three best players, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green -- are all young (28, 26, and 26, respectively) and are perfectly suited to succeed in an NBA that is rapidly evolving towards more pacing and shooting.

The Warriors have almost no threat of losing any of those three core players either: Green has four years remaining on his contract, Thompson has three years left on his team-friendly deal, and Curry is poised to receive a max deal next summer when the salary cap is expected to go above $100 million."

Could the Warriors try exceptionally hard to land Kevin Durant?

When asked about what he's taking into account this offseason, Durant simply said, "I'm worried about basketball."

That might be possible, especially with a strong possibility Harrison Barnes could be on the way out after he turned down an offer sheet before this prior season. Not retaining Barnes doesn't mean the Warriors will get Durant -- but they may be forced to move on from Barnes due to his likely high price.

Simply put, the Warriors just blew the biggest lead in NBA Finals history after having to come back from a 3-1 deficit against Oklahoma City to even get to the finals. There's a lot of decisions that'll need to be made during the upcoming offseason.

If you were the Warriors GM, what moves would you be making this offseason?

Stay put. They were one win away from their second championship. If Barnes gets too expensive let him walk and fill his shoes with maybe Matt Barnes?? Im sure they can find a good vet to take a pay cut for a title run.

They need to get tougher and need to find players that exemplify that toughness in addition to being able to play "D" and lock down the paint.

Matt Barnes is a good fit defensively.
I see a Wesley Johnson, Evan Turner type joining the Warriors if they cant resign Harrision Barnes
also a more athletic, defensive big like a Hassan whiteside, which Im sure theyll make a run at also in free agency.

a line up of
-curry
-thompson
-evan turner- (a defensive liability. but more consistent than harrison barnes on offense, plus he can play three positions. he's played the pg at times sparingly.)
-greene
-Whiteside

looks good on paper

Rush, Barbosa, Speights and Varejao are all unrestricted free agents.
Barnes, Mcadoo, Clark and Eezelie are all restricted free agents.

GSW could wind up with only 1 big on their team and thats Bogut.

there are some good role players headed to free agency this year.

They should let go Barnes and try to get Batum in there.

They need some better, durable bigs to compete in the future of the league

A big is needed, someone who could protect the paint and is an enforcer. Whiteside fit and another player that has not been mentioned, Joakim Noah. I think he fits that team perfectly. An athletic wing will also help as well if Barnes decides to go.

I'd let Harrison Barnes walk. Cleveland left Barnes open and he was self checked the entire series. It's crazy that he'll try to ask for max money this off season. Bring in a better wing and try to find a more durable big. They'll be in championship contention for quite some time if they can keep that team together.

God, I didn't realize how perfect Noah would be. His passing skills are supremely underrated, and on a team that thrives off ball movement and cuts he'd be killer. He let's you keep a big out running a pseudo Small Ball Death Squad line up because he can make those plays.

tough as nails.....I guess your talking about his play.
he'd be a good fit, but he's very injury prone.....so I wouldnt call that tough as nails.

They will certainly match any offer for Barnes, unless they can be sure to get KD or Batum. Not matching Barnes would be insane.

# 13 BA2929 @ 06/22/16 04:22 PM
If they got Batum and an actual capable backup Center to Bogut they could easily win another title.

Noah would be a good target, but he's only played more than 67 games once since 08-09. Not sure I'd want to rely on him.

# 14 cbjr @ 06/23/16 08:53 AM
Noah hasn't been very durable the past few seasons, that's why the Bulls are letting him walk

# 15 KyotoCarl @ 06/23/16 09:54 AM
I seriously don't get it... They get the best record in NBA history. They fight their way through the playoffs. The lose in 7 games against the Cavs.
WHY do people think they need to make changes? They're a good team who just happened to lose in the end. Nothing says that can't be as good next season.

This has been coming from a mile away. The reason they were so good is because of their depth and what allowed them to have tremendous depth was guys on rookie scale contracts (Draymond and Klay) and Steph being tremendously underpaid due to his previous injuries. Of course they have some guys coming off the books, but it's going to be interesting to see what Golden State does.

No doubt. They don't need to spend a bunch of cash on KD. They need to get a back up center for Bogut. Ezeli and Varejo(sp?) proved to be horrific back ups once Bogut went down doing nothing defensively, offensively, or on the boards. They should look at someone like Noah, Biyombo, Howard, etc.

Their GM (or maybe their owner?) spoke at Stanford recently, and made comments to the effect of "if you're doing the same thing you've been doing, then the competition will catch you." So I think he's interested in making some tweaks.

If the NBA is going to allow "playoff-style basketball" in the Finals, then they need to add some size and toughness. OKC almost beat them because of their size, and Lebron/TristanThompson basically bullied the Warriors they matched up against. Physically, Barnes was a great fit for them. But he doesn't play up to his physical tools. I'd like Batum there, but I don't see CHA letting him go. If they could get a big who could stay on the floor, it would give them a lot more flexibility. Isn't Al Horford a FA? He's a high-IQ player, and has enough range to space the floor. Would he play at a discount?
